I think it was because the producers liked the look of the outside of the historic building for the scene in the Fifth Element with Bruce Willis. and i remembered in the 60"s part of How The Wes Was Won with Henry Fonda and George Peppard was filmed near Custer South Dakota.

The open spaces was perfect for Dances with Wolves/ Kevin Costner"s brother is part owner of a restaurant and casino in Deadwood South Dakota and Kevin's mother lives close by.

Another movie location was a Bruce Willis film The Fifth Element was filmed in part at Sturgis South Dakota, they used an historic bank building.

Famous locations; Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota for North by Northwest with Cary Grant and near Wall South Dakota for Dances with Wolves

There was an old version of Pocket Full of Miracles. The gangster would buy an apple for good luck. GlennFord did the remake of that movie with Bette Davis.

i cant remember if the book was titled the Quiet Man sometimes at the beginning of the movie they will say its based on a book by so and so. I think i went by the name of the author to find it at the library.

I found my DVD copy at walmart. Also try Best Buy. There is a collectors edition out too. I read the book the Quiet Man and it was totally nothing like the movie.
