The Shopworn Angel 1938 was going to be an Jean Harlow picture, but with the tragedy of her untimely death. The film company had to change their plans and start the process of recasting. There was an revolving door of actresses being considered for the role, first Joan Crawford then Rosalind Russell and finally Margaret Sullavan. The other part was going to be Melvyn Douglas role , but he was replaced by Walter Pidgeon. It work out having the main leads be the duo of Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart being in that film.
