  4. PATHS OF GLORY (1957) In this film I love that the principals speak with a variety of American accents that indicate their class standing. Top-ranked Adolphe Menjou speaks like an over-educated East Coast elite. Mid-level officers Kirk Douglas and Wayne Morris speak like middle-class mid-westerners. The grunts, Timothy Carey, Joe Turkel and Ralph Meeker speak like working-class Brooklynites. Their acting and Kubrick's direction are brilliant. What a movie. next: coffee
