  1. The Great Race (1965) Next: music by Henry Mancini
  2. Harold Lloyd was in The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1947) with Rudy Vallee, who was in The Helen Morgan Story (1957) with Paul Newman. Next: Erich von Stroheim
  3. The Awful Truth (1937) My Favorite Wife (1940) Penny Serenade (1941) Next: Dan Duryea and Shelley Winters
  4. Lucy Liu was in Jerry Maguire (1996) with Tom Cruise, who was in The Color of Money (1986) with Paul Newman. Next: Jackie Earle Haley

  6. Right again, MilesArcher, and thanks for the accompanying details! Your move. 🙂
  7. Katie Holmes was in The Singing Detective (2003) with Robin Wright, who was in Message in a Bottle (1999) with Paul Newman. Next: Una Merkel
  8. Hint 3: 64 years later, a highly popular (but totally unrelated) film with the same title launched a famous off-screen relationship between its two lead actors.
  9. Telly Savalas was in The Dirty Dozen (1967) with John Cassavetes, who was in Tempest (1982) with Molly Ringwald. Next: Olivia Colman and Angela Bassett
  10. Thanks, MrMagoo--apparently several actors made their onscreen debuts in that film! Stenborg was an Obie-winning and Tony-nominated stage actress who played mostly smaller roles in only a few films, including The Europeans, Marvin's Room, Enchanted, and Doubt. Next: South Sea Rose (1929)
  11. Raf Vallone. Interesting that he was both a professional football player and a film and drama critic: possibly a unique combination. Capucine was a strikingly beautiful, intelligent, and aristocratic-looking actress (and former model) who often had a slightly melancholy, faraway quality onscreen. Perhaps not unrelated that she ultimately committed suicide, alas. Probably best remembered today for her appearances in many Pink Panther films. Next: Song Without End (1960) El Cid (1961) Youngblood Hawke (1964) Belle de Jour (1967) The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970)
  12. Charlotte Rampling Next: • Song Without End (1960) • North to Alaska (1960) • The Pink Panther (1963) • What's New, Pussycat? (1966) • Fellini Satyricon (1969)
  13. Carole Lombard in musicals: We're Not Dressing (1934) Next: Bolero (1934)
  14. Dern Next: Grant, Cameron, and Thomas
  15. Ron Howard Next: another child star who appeared in a classic musical (other than Shirley Temple)
  16. E. M. Forster novels set in Italy (with Helena Bonham Carter and Rupert Graves): A Room With a View (1985) Where Angels Fear to Tread (1991)
  17. hint: "I'm willin' to tell ya. I'm wantin' to tell ya. I'm waitin' to tell ya."
  18. hint: the linking actor I have in mind has also directed three feature films, for one of which he was Oscar-nominated as Best Actor. (Of course, as usual, there are undoubtedly other possible correct solutions.)
  19. 8. Despite her expertise at playing droll, cynical characters, Arden was uncomfortable with their distance from her real-life personality, and ultimately felt limited by being relentlessly cast in such roles. In 1952 she was quoted as saying: "I just don't like that dame. She is hard-boiled, unsentimental, and not me." (Note: there was no number 3, so Terrence got us back on track by having two number 7's.) 🙂
  20. Lindsay Lohan was in Georgia Rule (2007) with Dermot Mulroney, who was in Where the Money Is (2000) with Paul Newman. Next: Sean Nelson
  21. Marsha Hunt was in Flight Command (1940) with Walter Pidgeon, who was in The Rack (1956) with Paul Newman. (My link for Jason Robards Sr. was Myrna Loy: The Jazz Cinderella and From the Terrace.) Next: Emily Blunt
