  1. Thanks, Peebs! (Re Burstyn's 14-second nomination, apparently the producers submitted her name without telling her. Her reaction: "When they told me I was nominated for that I went, ‘What, are you kidding?’ My next ambition is to get nominated for seven seconds, and, ultimately, I want to be nominated for a picture in which I don’t even appear.”) 🙂 Next: Roberto Benigni George Clooney Ruth Gordon Alec Guinness Peter Ustinov
  2. They were all Oscar-nominated for supporting roles, and each had less than 10 minutes of screen time. Baddeley's is the shortest ever, at 2:19. Dench and Quinn also won for their roles. (Room at the Top, Shakespeare in Love, Network, Lust for Life, Doubt)
  3. That's it! Sally Field and Ray Liotta also won for their roles. Nice work, Peebs, and back to you. 🙂
  4. Thanks, Peebs! Next: Don Cheadle Sally Field Ray Liotta Ewan McGregor Stanley Tucci Hint: Emmy nominees
  5. They were all hosts on the first season of Saturday Night Live?

  7. Yes, perfect answer, Bunny! I hope you didn't get carpal tunnel syndrome from typing out all of Meryl Streep's nominations. 🙂 Embarrassing confession: I forgot that Bridget Fonda is Peter's son and not Jane's. (I was thinking all the parents had won acting Oscars.) So thanks for correcting me! Great job + back to you...
  8. Oy, I was aware of that, but since there's already an entire thread about it in General Discussions (in which four of those films are mentioned), I assumed you were looking for something else. No worries! 🙂 Next: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Hint: Oscar-related, genetically (Part II)
  9. Well, relative to their release dates, each is these films is set largely in a near-future (16, 30/32, 26, 37, and 10 years later, respectively). But maybe I'm not grasping what you mean by "setting"? In any case, whatever you're driving at sounds like it must be pretty obvious, so if it ain't that, I'll just let someone else handle this one before I embarrass myself any further. Thanks for the hints! 🙂
  10. Oui, Monsieur Peebs, vous avez raison. Bien fait, et votre tour! 🙂
  11. No worries, I was being sincere (not sarcastic) about appreciating the hint--probably wouldn't have gotten it otherwise! 🙂 --------------------------------------- Next: Anne of the Thousand Days (1969) The Day of the Dolphin (1973) Julia (1977) A Little Romance (1979) Agnes of God (1985) Hint: Oscar-related
  12. Oh, duh, fireworks! Thanks for the (big) hint, Peebs. 🙂

  14. Perfect score! Nice work, Peebs, and your thread. 🙂
  15. Thanks, Bunny! Next: 1. AND 2. AND 3. AND 4. AND 5. AND Each pair of actors forms a familiar three-word phrase (in some cases with approximate spellings). Either first or last name is used in each case.
  16. Alfred Newman won the Academy Award for Best Musical Score? (1, 3, and 5 were adaptation scores)
  17. Possessed (1947) The Haunting (1963) Repulsion (1965) Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) Jacob's Ladder (1980) Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988)
  18. Bonita Granville Next: Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1934) Captain Blood (1935) You Can't Take it With You (1938) Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) State Fair (1945)
  19. Julie Andrews Next: Martha Lafferty
  20. Wow, Bunny, what an impressively thorough and beautifully formatted answer! Buckets full of that highly-coveted "extra credit" for you. 🙂 To be honest, all I was looking for was "each is the son of a Best-Actor Oscar winner." But all that additional info is great. I'm especially surprised to see that Jeremy Irons was never Oscar-nominated for any other film (e.g., The French Lieutenant's Woman, Moonlighting, Lolita, or especially Dead Ringers). Lovely job, and your thread.
  21. Yahoo! Thanks, Bunny! Next: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Hint: Oscar-related, genetically
  22. Texas? Will Rogers: A Texas Steer (1927) Audie Murphy: Texas, Brooklyn & Heaven (1948) and The Kid From Texas (1950) Claudette Colbert: Texas Lady (1955) Sterling Hayden: Terror in a Texas Town (1958) Dean Martin: Texas Across the River (1966)
