  2. Yes it could! Great job, Bunny, and back to you. ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. Thanks, Peebs! Next: Taming of the Shrew (1929) Queen Kelly (filmed 1928/9, released 1932) I'm No Angel (1933) Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Hint: implement of punishment
  4. Each was the director's debut film, and each received an Oscar nomination as Best Director (Delbert Mann and James L. Brooks also won).
  5. If I remember correctly, it was a comedy routine (and may have involved some juggling). I felt bad for him at the time, but he's a very glass-is-half-full kinda guy, and got over his disappointment almost immediately. ๐Ÿ™‚
  6. Alan Marshal Next: David Copperfield (1935) Little Lord Fauntleroy (1936) Camille (1936) Drums Along the Mohawk (1939) The Bank Dick (1940)
  7. Yep, you got it! Plus extra bonus points for On the Sunny Side, which I wasn't even aware of (Jill Esmond also played his mom in The Pied Piper the same year). Nice work, Peebs (and fast!) -- your thread...
  8. Irving Bacon was in A Star is Born with James Mason, who was in The Mackintosh Man and The Verdict with Paul Newman. Next: Martin Mull
  9. Thanks, Peebs! Next: Sara Allgood Jill Esmond Rita Johnson Elsa Lanchester Irene Dunne Hint: movie moms to a particular actor
  10. Cary Grant was in North by Northwest with James Mason, who was in The Mackintosh Man and The Verdict with Paul Newman. Next: Louise Latham
  11. A group of teenagers form a rock band?
  12. That's it! Nice work, Peebs, and thanks for sticking with it. Your thread... ๐Ÿ™‚
  13. I think all of them are/were good actors, and wasn't suggesting otherwise. I was only noticing that they each seemed to make their strongest impression with one particularly iconic role, and speculating as to why that might be the case.
  14. Hi Peebs, I realized only after posting that this is also coincidentally true. And Herbert Marshall also appeared in Hitchcock's Murder! (1930), so there's the sequence 1930-1940-1950. I forgot that Bob Cummings was also in Dial M for Murder, but without it there is the 11-year pattern of 1942-1953-1964 for actors 3/4/5. You're right about the Hitchcock part. The other thing I'm looking for, however, is a (decades-related) biographical fact about the actors themselves rather than any role or films they appeared in.
  15. Hint 2: the numerical sequence involves decades. The director was British.
  16. A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) Au Hasard, Balthazar (1966) Shrek (2001)
  17. Paul Reubens was in Batman Returns (1992) with Pat Hingle, who was in WUSA (1970) with Paul Newman. Next: Rosalind Cash
  18. Thanks, Peebs! Yes, I just read about Danny Lockin's death--what a horrifying story in every way. One of my cousins once appeared on The Gong Show. He's a very nice guy, but was (deservedly, I'm afraid) "gonged" almost immediately. ๐Ÿ™‚ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next: Herbert Marshall Alastair Sim Robert Cummings Montgomery Clift Sean Connery Hint: there are two things in common here. One forms a numerical sequence. The other is a film director these actors each worked with at least once.
  19. Hi Bunny, just a heads-up that Peebs is still waiting for confirmation of his answer to this one... ๐Ÿ™‚
  20. Bette Davis, Dan Duryea, and Carl Benton Reid in The Little Foxes (1941) Tim Holt in The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) Lionel Barrymore in It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Broderick Crawford in All the King's Men (1949) and Born Yesterday (1950) Alastair Sim and Albert Finney in Scrooge (1951/1970) Patty McCormack in The Bad Seed (1956) Andy Griffith in A Face in the Crowd (1957) Tony Curtis in The Sweet Smell of Success (1957) Louise Fletcher in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) Meryl Streep in A Cry in the Dark (1988) and The Devil Wears Prada (2006) Ben Stiller in Greenberg (2010)
  21. The existence of such a thing was actually a recent subject of debate, when actor Seth Rogen took Stephen Colbert's 15-part "Colbert Question-ert." The very first question was "What Is the Best Sandwich"? Rogen (hesitating): Is a hamburger a sandwich? Colbert (looking offscreen for confirmation): Is a hamburger a sandwich? A hamburger is a sandwich. No one ever calls it a "hamburger sandwich," but it is a sandwich. Rogen (laughing): Then a cheeseburger is the best sandwich.
  22. Bless you, my child, for you have answered correctly. ๐Ÿ™‚ Great job, Bunny, and the thread is thine.
