The Longer Road To Hollywood - 2011

I just got my pass or ticket to From Here to Eternity. Wow, the fact that TCM is letting people in for FREE (and it is definitely not free for them to do it) is an indication at just how special this station is. -

There have been many a-thread about the best year for films, but I don't recall anyone asking, "What year stands out for great film scores?" There were many, of course, but I might just have to say 1959 leads the pack. Ben-Hur (Miklos Rozsa) (my choice for best film score of all) North by Northwest (Bernard Herrmann) The Nun's Story (Franz Waxman) Black Orpheus Some Like It Hot (Adolph Deutsch) The Diary of Anne Frank (Alfred Newman) Journey to the Center of the Earth (Herrmann) What year do you pick?

I was looking at Blu-ray.com and came across a new column called The Silve Screen, the first in a new series of articles detailing the making of classic films. I haven't had a chance to read the first article about The Ten Commandments, but it looks excellent. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6005 By the way, I picked that new Blu release and it is quite amazing.

Historic Hollywood Sites that you might enjoy!

Tonight, I was driving down Hollywood Boulevard for the first time in a LONG time and I was amazed at the changes (that will likely be only noticed at night). It has remarkably transformed and is very popular for young people. There are a lot of nightclubs -and I mean, a lot - that have opened up. Restaurants, too. I drove by the Vogue Theater, which was hardly ever used. Now it is a restaurant and it looked from the crowd outside that it was one of those places only certain people got in. For the last couple of decades, from Hollywood & Highland to Hollywood & Vine used to be a depressing place to walk at night. There was nothing going on, just shuttered stores. The change is very dramatic. I always knew that the Boulevard was going to change. It was inevitable. So many places in L.A. have gone through a growth period, and Hollywood Boulevard, with its famous location for tourists, had to be the next stop because there really was no place for people visiting to go at night. But I never guessed that it was nightclubs that would do it. -
Frankenstein - So great to see it again!

I was just watching Now Playing for April and I think I understand why we got Frankenstein, It's because Chita Rivera as Guest Programmer chose it for ger section. My guess (which may be lousy) is that TCM probably had to move Heaven and Earth in order to get it (in other words, spend A LOT on this one film). -
Hi, all, Well, three months done so far. And the best is still to come. I hope you are all enjoying this thread. I needed to insert this post (and wouldn't mind hearing from you here) in order that there not be so many images per page. It takes much longer to open this thread when it is just images.

Edge, re: the British films below. I am a big British film fan. I have a friend in England that sends me obscure titles and he has been picking up films with Sidney James because he nows I like to see him do dramatic films, too. His latest batch to me will include: Night Beat 1948 Once A Jolly Swagman 1948 Man in Black 1949 Park Plaza 605 1953 The Flanagan Boy 1953
