  1. ff, any chance you can delete yours, so we can move up more release info? Thanks.
  2. from highdefdigest.com: Fox has unveiled final specs for the October Blu-ray release of *'Young Frankenstein,'* which will hit high-def with hours of brand-new exclusive content. As previously reported, Fox earmarked October 7 for the "Boo-ray" release of the Mel Brooks comedy classic, but hadn't issued any additional specs. Now the full media release is in, and fans can look forward to hours of newly-produced content exclusive to the Blu-ray. Among the extensive extras is the "Inside The Lab: Secret Formulas in the Making Of Young Frankenstein" Bonus View picture-in-picture track (Profile 1.1 required), the "Franken-Track: A Monstrous Conglomeration of Trivia" BD-Java pop-up graphics track, an isolated score in DTS-MA 5.1 Surround, two featurettes ("It's Alive! Creating A Monster Classic featurette," "Transylvanian Lullaby: The Music of John Morris"), "The Brain Game" interactive BD-Java game, 17 deleted and extended scenes, and the "Blucher Button" interactive feature. 6. I think a way has been found to get some here ready for Blu-ray. Amazon has now changed the upcoming *"Sleeping Beauty"* 2-disc Blu release on Blu to be containing a 3rd disc, a standard DVD version of the movie. Their price at Amazon is still only $23.95 for the combo 3-disc set. The standard DVD 2-disc set that will be coming out on the same day (Oct. 7th) is $19.95 from Amazon. So for $4 more, you get Blu-ray and standard DVD all in one package. (HD DVD tried something combining both in a set but what they made the mistake of doing was gluing the standard DVD to the back of the HD DVD disc, sometimes causing problems in playing.) http://www.amazon.com/Sleeping-Beauty-Three-Disc-Blu-ray-Standard/dp/B0013ND30W/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1218421703&sr=8-2 With this combo, you can buy it for the standard DVD for now, have the Blu ready for when you do eventually buy a Blu-ray player. You can then give the standard DVD to the kids.
  7. Sorry to hear this: http://www.popeater.com/music/article/soul-legend-isaac-hayes-passes-away/126811?icid=200100397x1207543159x1200371266
  8. I thought I would do a roundup of some new sales that look pretty good: *Best Buy stores and online at:* http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&id=pcat17071&type=page&ks=960&st=Special_Edition_DVD_Sale_20080810&sc=Global&cp=1&sp=-bestsellingsortskuid&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1%7E%7Eq5370656369616c5f45646974696f6e5f4456445f53616c655f3230303830383130%7E%7Enccat02015%23%230%23%23t&list=y&usc=AllCategories&nrp=31&iht=n _2-disc editions, each $9.99:_ Guess Who's Coming to Dinner 40th Anniversary (it's $19.49 on Amazon) The Guns of Navarone (Collector's Edition) (it's $21.99 on Amazon) Rebel Without A Cause (Amazon:$21.99) The Maltese Falcon (3-disc edition) (A:$11.99) Forbidden Planet (A: $11.99) Stagecoach (A: $21.99) The Searchers (the ad shows the 2-disc edition which is on Amazon at $22.99 but online they've pictured the cover of the Ultimate Collector's Edition which Amazon sells at $35.99; I would believe it to be the regular edition) Dr. Strangelove (A: $14.99) Lawrence of Arabia (the ad and online site show the Limited Edition) (A.$26.99) The Dirty Dozen (A:$23.99) Taxi Driver (A: $14.99) Das Boot (A: $30.99) Gandhi (A: $14.99) JFK (A: $21.99) and other titles. *deepdiscount:* http://www.deepdiscount.com/DVD---Mill-Creek-Buy-1-Get-1-8-4_stcVVcatId474520VVviewcat.htm?promoCode=B1G1MILL0808 _Mill Creek DVD box sets:_ Buy One Get One...they have a select group of TV and movie compilations and all are public domain titles, but still a good sale on the whole. Each title is $8.29, so with the sale it works out to $4.15. Among the ones they have up are: Adv.of Robin Hood - The Complete First Season (the 1950s series starrig Richard Greene) Alfred Hitchcock The Legend Continues - 20 movies Alien Worlds - mixture of 20 sci-fi movies and TV shows Best of the Cisco Kid - 35 TV shows ("Oh, Pancho." "Oh, Cisco.") The Buccaneers - The Complete Series (TV show from the 1950s starring Robert Shaw) plus several more worth getting at this price. Remember, some won't be that great picture-quality wise, but still a good deal to find some obscure collections of gangster, western, crime, etc. movies and TV shows. It's best to cross-reference the title to its listing on Amazon for details on how good or bad it is, plus sometimes a listing of individual titles in the collections. deepdiscount doesn't charge shipping or tax, so that's good, too. *Amazon:* http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_7184122_1?ie=UTF8&docId=1000254921&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=15MY0ZGBZ1Q3NFX8P4J7&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=417974001&pf_rd_i=163345 _Boxed-set sale:_ This one is kinda hidden away, and not part of that other sale that has been going on for some time. Not many of them but a few good prices. Among the titles are The Matt Helm Lounge ($14.49) (warning: all are full-screen), The Premiere Frank Capra Collection ($30.99), and The Stanley Kramer Collection ($31.49).
  9. Ah, but the possibility makes nice thinking. (I don't care much as a whole for Universal releases but I would like to see more Paramount come out). (And who knows, after the fire, maybe they have less than they admit to and want to get it over to somoene else.)
  10. I've had the Tarzan Collection vol. 1 for awhile now and the quality is -- wait... Damn! I knew there was something I had forgotten with this set. I forgot to watch the movies! I'll let you know.
  11. Kim, welcome back! It's about time, young lady. Kyle had posted awhile back in a thread about 10 things learned from the TCM board, that there are really only three of us posters here and all the rest are made up names. I scoffed at that because there was you, a fourth...but then I realized that even though Kyle, Lynn and I have all been together in person, you were never in the same city at the same time. Very suspicious. Hmm, and I thought sure the other day that Kyle covered up what could have been a TCM tattoo. You better get back here sometime soon so we can quash this theory of his. By the way, I know about your situation with the Seattle rain. I lived in Vancouver, B.C. for several years (just above Seattle for those who don't know the area) and it rained almost every day of the year. When the sun would come out, we would look up and get terrified, screaming, "What's that??!!! Help, we're going to die!!!!" btw, happy birthday!
  12. I don't think we need to get hot under the collar about the Holiday Inn reissue. I think it is just a case that the DVD companies know it is Christmas coming up and they just want to get it out there again for that window. Next year will likely be the same thing. I think we can cut them some slack on holiday movie reissues.
  13. Hi, marcco and everyone, I've just created one more thread, "*Blu-ray General Discussion Area*," so we can leave this thread clear for upcoming DVD and Blu-ray news. (marcco, TCM WebAdmin may not to do the policing, but it is something I do watch over and let the Admin know of any problems because I was the one who, with the TCMWebAdmin's help, got the Classic Film DVD Reviews forum created and I set up about 95% of the threads here..) I think we can best handle questions and comments about Blu-ray (the equipment, sales, etc.) over there. (Blu-ray and DVD release info will still be done in this current "Upcoming Releases" thread. Before we do move the Blu discussion over there, I just wanted to address one thing from your post, marcco..."those articles are not directed to you but to those of us on this thread who have recently posted their concerns about jumping over to blu ray...... *it's good to know a majority of the nation shares that reluctance to make the jump."* Since about half of those 1,000 people questioned said they will buy a Blu-ray player in 2008, and another quarter of them say they will in 2009, wouldn't you say that the "majority of the nation" is going to buy Blu-ray (close to 75%)? It looks to me that only about 25% are reluctant to make the jump..
  14. *Hi, I thought it might be a good idea to establish a general discussions thread about Blu-ray since so many views and questions about Blu-ray are popping up in the "Upcoming Releases" thread, kind of filling up that space when people are looking for info on new releases (on both DVD and Blu-ray).* *This thread can be used for questions about the format, the equipment, etc. This will not be used for posting upcoming Blu-ray releases. That will still come under the "Upcoming Releases" thread.* *Thanks.*
  15. marcco, I am not sure why you picked that to link to. It is definitely not an article, but rather just someone's blog. Blu-ray is doing just fine. That one particular piece of research has been spun so many different ways it is unbelievable. For example, one of the links in it goes to an article that says, in part, "over half of the 1000 respondents, citing ?other priorities,? say they have no plans to purchase one; a further 23% are likely to buy, but not until sometime in 2009." Now that sounds negative, but it all how you look at it. Using that same research and that same info, Home Media Magazine, a trusted magazine in the industry, has an article in the most recent magazine stating it thusly, in which it is stated that of 1,000 respondents, 75% plan on buying Blu-ray by next year (half plan on buying a Blu-ray player this year, and another quarter will hold off until 2009). http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/questex/hom416825MHD/index.php#/12 (in case the link doesn't go to the right page, it is the article at the top of page 10) See, it is the very same info, but it all depends on how one chooses to spin it. There are a number of people who bought into the losing format, HD DVD, who are carrying grudges against Blu and look for opportunities to try to bring it down. (I am beginning to think I am the only person in the world without a blog.) It is all how one looks at the same research info. Negatively or positively. Cup half-empty or cup half-full? This week, looking at the top 20 unit volume, 10% of the sales were Blu-ray, which is quite excellent considering the format wars have only been over for a few months. And while sales of DVD only increased 7.93% for that particular week over the previous, Blu sales increased by 17.85%. I really don't mind mentioning Blu releases here, along with DVD, because I feel they belong here, but I feel adding in post after post of talking about Blu is defeating this thread's mission, to highlight upcoming releases. There are several good places for people to read about Blu-ray, if they like, such as highdefdigest.com, and to discuss it positively and negatively (and they do both with enthusiasm, LOL).
  16. Already mentioned in posts past, here are the DVD covers for Dr. Syn (The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh), Annette from the Mickey Mouse Club, Donald Duck cartoon, plus the digitbook cover for the Poltergeist Blu-ray:
  17. Boomerang might come out in Canada, possibly due to not being subject to whatever rights issues caused it to be pulled the first time, but with the shipping it is around $28 US from Amazon in Canada on the preorder.
  18. That has been going on for quite awhile now, TripleHHH (does that make it HHHHHHHHH?). It's been mentioned here several times. Still a good sale for some items.
  19. Capuchin wrote: "The first thing that popped out about the November schedule is the Saturday mornings -- a return to serials." Listen, I know it probably bothers no one else but me but I really feel the need to correct the usage of the term "serials" here because I have seen it misused before in the forums: The movies that had continuing characters were called "series," not "serials." For example, movies with the characters of Nancy Drew, The Falcon, and Boston **** were each part of a "series." Serials were the weekly chapterplays, each week one episode of usually a 12 or 15 chapter serial, each episode running approximately 15 minutes. For example, "The Adventures of Captain Marvel," "Captain America," and "The Phantom" were serials.
  20. Well, Blu is getting racy... "The Story of O" (1975) is coming in November.
  21. LOL, I held off from listing those two.
  22. It's not even worth mentioning, really, but I got an email from Kino saying they are having a birthday sale of 30% off a number of items. Looking at the prices, that only puts them in line with places like Amazon. As I said, barely worth mentioning. http://www.kino.com/video/results.php?featured_id=105
  23. Hi, Kyle, No, I didn't bid on anything. I checked on a few lots that they estimated to go for around $200-$400 and every auction was in the thousands of dollars. Way too much for the likes of me.
  24. Kyle, I decided to look up some of the missing info films, but then got carried away and did all the older ones. Here you go! Bette Davis The Runaway (1962) ? British film Geez, that was a lot of work. PLEASE, DON"T EVER LET ME DO THAT AGAIN!!!!!
  25. Kyle, I think all the movies with no descriptions are movies brand new to TCM. That usually is the way it seems to be (no description) when that happens. filmlover
