GREAT REQUESTED MOVIES COMING TO DVD NOVEMBER 11TH!
filmlover replied to classicsstarlets's topic in General Discussions
Hi, classicstarletsfan, You may not be aware of it, but we have a great section for upcoming announcements of classic DVDs here in the TCM forums. If you look under the "genres" forums, you will see one at the bottom called, "Classic Film DVD Reviews." Inside of that forum is a special section called "Upcoming Releases" that talks about classic movies coming to DVD and Blu-ray. I think you would get enjoyment from it The Christmas set was announced there last week by film fatale. filmlover -
CK, you're doing it again! This is just the same info I posted just 4 messages below this. I mention the 2 disc DVD, I mention the Blu-ray release, I mention the documentary and the commentary. If they go to the link I provided, it tells about the restoration. Was it worth it to reprint this info from another source when it is the same? If what you are doing is telling the date for the Blu release, then that is all you would have had to list and skip everything else that has been done just below.

Using the term of taking it in a "new direction," makes me think they are probably going to do something to grab in the young crowd, like have younger reviewers reviewing Disney positively (since it is tied to them) and, of course, the truly important films of today...such as "Knocked Up," "The Forty-Year-Old Virgin," and "American Pie" and none of them those boring movies their parents would probably like.

I believe we mentioned in months past that *Quo Vadis* would get a new DVD release on November 11th. Word from Warners is that there will also be a Blu-ray high definition release, but it won't be until Spirng 2009. Extras are expected to mirror that of the 2-DVD release: from blu-ray.com: "These extras include a documentary tracing the roots of the film from its start as a bestseller, and a commentary by filmmaker/writer F.X. Feeney on the details of the lavish and complicated production." http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1544

Let's stop the practice of creating new threads in BOLD
filmlover replied to filmlover's topic in General Discussions
Kyle, it did get a smile out of me. But I was thinking of Lynn as Franklin and you as Jefferson, LOL. So that means Lynn gets to go to Canada for the **** and drinking...you'll have to settle for Mrs.J. Just remember, "Give her a flourish for me, young fella." And I truly don't mind being thought of as Adams. LOL, I may be obnoxious and disliked, but I stand for what's right. "Does anybody see what I see?" Molo14, I think of Kyle, Lynn, and me as more like this: LOL, maybe instead of threads, I will just get a bunch of Stephen Hopkins' cards from the film to hand out to certain member, the cards that read, "Dear Sir, you are without any doubt, a rogue, a rascal, a villain, a thief, a scoundrel and a mean, dirty, stinking, sniveling, sneaking, pimping, pocket-picking, thrice double-damned no-good son-of-a-****." LOL, rest easy now, Kyle, nobody will remember your "****" quote after this. : ) Hey, at least this thread will get a lot of people here to seeing "1776"! -

molo, that is a very good post with very good ideas. I belong to another film-related forum and they have a rule that one person can create no more than two new threads per day. I think that would work well here. I agree with you about lzcutter's diplomatic ways. lzcutter and Kyle are the Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson of the TCM message board. I am afraid I am the John Adams of the board. -

Very good post, Lynn, and, of course, one I take to heart. To that end, I have done something I was thinking about earlier today and removed the bold from this header because it has made its point. Hopefully, the matter under discussion has been brought to a head and can now rest. It is time now to get back to the fun of the board. -

hamradio, this is not a war. This is simply a request to not post threads in bold. Truly, you have no idea the wars that did go on in this threads about a year or so ago with a certain troll. But before this is all put to rest, there is a statement by CelluloidKid that MUST be addressed: ?I have more film knowlege than most of you have. I belong to SAG, acated in a few films, I use to write movie reviews & also volunteer every year at the Denver Film Festivale.? CelluloidKid, I felt I must address this as being not only both egocentric and childish, it is also arrogant. To say you have more film ?knowlege? than most of us is an insult and highly debatable. Many people are driven to TCM out of a love of movies and many carry life experiences and knowledge when they come. To say you have more knowledge is one of the craziest statements I have come across. More than Mongo? More than lzcutter? More than hlywdkjk? Than ChelseaRialto? Or any of the rest here? I think you would be very surprised the extent of the knowledge that exists here. For example, I am in my early fifties and I have been going to the movies since I was about six. That?s more than forty years of movie watching. Like in ?Cinema Paradiso,? I used to hang around the projection booth a lot, always fascinated by that. I collected film memorabilia and still have some unique items. I worked at a theatre for a time. I have been an extra in movies and TV series. I sold my first film-related article when I was 26 and have since sold over 100 items to magazines and newspapers across North America, including genre articles, celebrity interviews, and have done video reviews. I had my own trivia column appearing in a weekly TV magazine. I?ve interviewed classic screen stars Stewart Granger, Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Buster Crabbe, Republic Studios serial stuntman Tom Steele, Mickey Rooney, plus others. I had a play in workshop several years ago, am working on a new play, and trying to sell film scripts. I have thousands of DVDs in my collection, plus hundreds of books on film history. So be careful before stating so boldly you have more film knowledge than most of us here. -

CK, first off, no one objects to your name; that is ridiculous. And nobody is "cyber-bullying." What people object to is your constantly trying to draw attention to yourself by posting your headers in bold. The key way to move successfully into a nice neighborhood is to be a good neighbor. Instead, you are the neighbor who moves in and plays loud music to 5 AM with windows and door wide open, not giving a care about anybody else. You've read here in this thread that people think what you are doing is annoying. If it were me, being a decent person, I would realize I had done wrong and would try to get along with the community or move out. I agree some threads posted in the forums are pointless but if people don't like them they don't respond to them. However, creating a thread in Bold is just intrusive. And to have one page filled with several bold threads is ridiculous. You said, "I'm sorry to all of you if I put something in BOLD...and you found that offensive...if I place it in bold...I do want it to stand out and get noticed. Mabey I'm asking for a response back, like when I talked about the film "Darling Lili". LOL, that's actually a bad eexample for you to pick. Darling Lili, while enjoyable, certainly does NOT deserve a bold header simply because you want someone to respond. No film does. Not even my favorite, Casablanca. People look at threads on the main page, and scan down to see the topics. You'd be surprised how many look in on the forums every day to see what is new. If they see a thread's subject they find interesting, they will respond without a bold header. If they don't, then they don't. -

deepdiscount.com has a great 2-for-1 sale on Criterions! The header says "select titles" but when I clicked on it, it went to a page and it looks to be all of them. I did a dummy order and it worked on any titles I picked. (Some say "temporarily out of stock" on the order page but it's okay to still go ahead and order them because dd will make sure you get the sale price when they get them in. They are also pretty fast at getting replacement stock.) http://www.deepdiscount.com/DVD---Criterion-Buy-1-Get-1-Free_stcVVcatId476505VVviewcat.htm?promoCode=B1G1CRITE0807 -
Very glad to hear it.

film fatale: "And, yes, filmlover explained why she'd used bolds in this thread." Correct, with a revision...I'm a he, not a she. -
I would never have started this thread if everything CelluloidKid does here in all of our forums wasn't driving me crazy. His latest egocentric drive is to have many of the threads he creates have a bold header. And now it is spreading. I only did this one in order to point how bad it has gotten In the past, a bold header has only been used in cases of very important threads, maybe one out of a thousand, such as the TCM Programming Challenges (and even those got debolded when the contest was over). But now so many threads he creates are in bold. Nothing is special if everything is special. For example, tell me, CK, do you think Louisville's Wonderfest deserves a bold header. What is to separate it from all the other conventions with film stars going on around the country every month? Is it because you live there that you think it is so important? Nope, you live in Phoenix, AZ. Put your ego in check, CK. Stop it. This also goes for others following this practice. Trust me, if your thread is important, it will get noticed and people will respond without the use of *BOLD*.

shearerchic, back on July 2nd, you mentioned the three new Fox Film Noir titles due out on September 2nd, Moontide, Road House, and Boomerang. I noticed tonight that two are listed on Amazon, but Boomerang is not (except for the original release at collectors prices). I wonder if Boomerang got pulled again? Here are the new Amazon links to Moontide and Road House: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CC7PLW?tag=dvdbeaver-20&camp=15041&creative=373497&link_code=as3 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CC7PM6?tag=dvdbeaver-20&camp=15041&creative=373501&link_code=as3

Hi, Kyle, A Star is Born is this week. I don't think I will be going. However, if they had new new talked-about high quality restoration copy, then I would consider it. But I haven't heard that it is such so I am guessing it is not. As for The Three Lives of Thomasina, I would very much like to see that again. Patrick McGoohan, Susan Hampshire, and those two kids from Mary Poppins. A lovely little film. During the late Fifties and early Sisties, Walt Disney turned out a bunch of very good movies. He had a good producer's touch like the other studios had during they heyday.

Special Sales of Classic Titles on DVD & Blu-ray

Just came back from Costco and they have some good prices on some classic items: Forbidden Hollywood vol. 1 $17.99 John Wayne/John Ford Collection (WB) $34.99 TCM Archives: Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, Garbo Silents $17.99 each Kubrick collection $34.99 International Cinema Collection (includes several films including Day for Night) $34.99 Controversial Classics vol.1 $34.99 Chaplin vol. 1 $34.99 Tarzan Collection vol. 2 $17.99 Star Trek movies (saw the first, plus III, IV, and First Contact...they probably have ST II at some locations) 2-disc sets $7.49 each They also still have a few of the three-[acks of Fox Studio Classics at $11.99 They have also something called "Decade Collection" in which a package contains a movie, a CD with music of the period, and 16-page Life sampler for the decade. The movies I saw were Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof,The Graduate, West Side Store, 12 Angry Men and a few other titles at $8.99 each. Be sure to look carefully when you are buying any because I noticed that it said West Side Story was the full screen version. -
I just took another look at the listings more in-depth and it looks like a very exciting month. A few of the Lombards look to be premieres, plus there is a daytime programming I like the look of: Fugitive Lady (1934) Roaming Lady (1936) Waterfront Lady (1935) Counterfeit Lady (1936) Lady From Nowhere (1936) Lady of Secrets (1936) Lady And The Mob, The (1939) Go West, Young Lady (1941) Officer and the Lady, The (1941) Lady Is Willing, The (1942) Many of those don't have plots, so likely premieres. Now that's the way to treat a lady. And I spotted a film that will give you and Kyle a laugh, remembering something I said the other night... "Pollyanna"
-
Kyle, this should make Lynn very happy (didn't she suggest it in a Challenge?) The reason for the RKO is that they are doing, "80th Anniversary of RKO Studios." And, yay, Carole Lombard is Star of the Month! The night of Jacques Tati is celebrating his 100th birthday. Rainn Wilson is the Guest Programmer with High School COnfidential, Gene Krupa Stiry, Singin' in the Rain, and 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. I like Bob's Picks for the month: Scarlet Pimpernel, Thief of Bagdad, Jungle Book, Song of India, and Son of India. I wonder if he is saluting Alexander Korda?
-
vallo, actually, Boomerang did get released on DVD a few years back but got pulled and a number of copies are in the hands of collectors. I am glad it is coming out again because it fills in a hole in the numbering system in the Fox Film Noir set (and so the gougers who charge $30 for it on eBay for the first release won't be able to so any longer).

Web, LOL, first, is the "The new 2.0 tooth-within-a-tooth dental implants are coming out which lets you upconvert your old teeth" a reference to Toshiba's new SUC DVD player coming out around Christmas? We don't need to get into that here, but, God, please don't tell me you are one of those who think people should get that over true high def Blu-ray? As to the Ford, set, I didn't see this on Amazon the other day...I saw the United Artist 30-title set they had on about a day or two ago...but I got my Ford set for $97 with the B&N coupin codes, etc. Costco had a special on the Ford set (and also the UA set) a few weeks back for about $110. filmlover -
