  1. MissG, it's okay when they are not in stock. You can still order them (as long as it is not a future release) and when they come in they will charge you the sale price. And sometimes it doesn't take long at all for them to come back in. For one order I did, I ordered several items, one of which was out of stock, and they sent what they had. A day or two later, the out of stock item was sent to me.
  2. WOWWOWWOW!! First look at the art and contents for Casablanca Ultimate Edition, JFK Ultimate Edition, A Christmas Story Ultimate Edition, plus some others: Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set is also coming to both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The standard DVD set will be 3 DVDs. Both will include 40 minutes of special features, 2 feature-length commentaries, branded travel-related premiums, a photo book, and much more. The JFK set will include:a 3-disc JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition on DVD, including special packaging, 3 hours of bonus content and collectible memorabilia, as well as an all new documentary, The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings. This title will also be available on Blu-ray Disc format in Digibook packaging. A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition will soon be announced, set to include the previous 2-disc DVD special edition along with exclusive premiums only available in the set. We're waiting to hear if any new disc-based content will be included, but we do know that this will also be released on Blu-ray Disc format. There are also details about a few more recent titles, too, at the link. http://www.digitalbits.com/#300deluxe All I can say is: I WANT!!!
  3. Well, no wonder I am so broke...the new Entertainment Merchants Association annual report on the home entertainment industry says that in 2007 there were 12,177 DVD titles released. http://sev.prnewswire.com/entertainment/20080624/DC2580624062008-1.html
  4. Hi, ff, actually, you will find mention of Metropolis back a page on the 20th. The other Kino title got a mention, I believe, back a few weeks ago when I posted the newst about Kino going Blu.
  5. There will be a two-week delay on the Blu-ray release of How the West Was Won, moving from its August date until September 9th, now tying in day and date with the standard DVD release.
  6. Early word from the Home Medio Expo in Las Vegas is that Warner Bros. will be releasing (possibly this Fall) Casablanca: Ultimate Collectors Edition and JFK: Ultimate Collectors Edition. It is hard to imagine what they could possible add to the previous 2-DVD package of Casablanca or the box set they came out with several years ago to make this the "Ultimate Collectors Edition," but since it is my favorite movie I am excited. Unknown if there will be Blu versions of these yet.
  7. CK, as mentioned before, we only need the basics, not a synopsis. It's also good to cut through all the puffery of a publicity piece and whittle it down to what people just need to know.
  8. It's gotten past the point of PMs. I don't have as much time to post as I used to, but I do watch over this forum since I helped bring it about, and I felt this needed saying here in this thread since I thought it was a bad idea and it should be closed.
  9. Snorky says: We have a bit of history and although I think we're both on the same side I don't expect you to understand or agree with what I do here. Don't expect me to care that much about your opinion. Snorky, in the past you have thanked me for letting you know when you go over the line in pursuit of somebody, and that was what I was doing here. And sometimes in the past you have gone way over the edge with long, long theories of who is who. I look in on the the General Discussions forum to read what is going on occasionally but not that often. I've even looked the other way on occasion here, but I do notice when you reappear in some forum I am reading, it is usually to go after someone and to start antagonizing threads. For what purpose? I don't want to see the DVD forum get disrupted like the others have. The Classic Film DVD Reviews forum is a news and review area about DVDs (and Blu-ray) and that's it; it is not a personality-expressing forum.
  10. Edgecliff wrote: Both films are also supposed to released in Blu Ray as well. Arggh, WB has announced the Blu versions will be delayed until early 2009. The standard DVDs are still on time.
  11. Star Wars: approaching the Death Star: Han Solo: "I have a bad feeling about this."
  12. This was intended more as ironic... "Grand Hotel... always the same. People come, people go. Nothing ever happens."
  13. ham, as far as the movie version, I admit I didn't care for it. One thing the TV series had going for it was the true trust and partnership West and Gordon had with each other. The movie had them always at odds with each other, just like many other films do now. Mission Impossible, the movie, suffered from the lack of trust within the team members and ultimately the betrayal by Phelps. In other words, throwing out everything that we considered important (okay, maybe it was 40 years ago, but are we truly this cynical now?).
  14. I think it is time I spoke up about this thread and issues raised. I thoguth I better do so since I was the one who got this whole DVD forum created by TCM. First, I disagree with this thread being created because it is antagonizing towards one member. It is true that Celluloid Kid posts a lot of material, sometimes redundant, in the "Upcoming Releases" section, but at least he is posting it there where "Upcoming Releases" information belongs. And no matter the genre (horror, action, etc.), if it is upcoming it belongs in the "Upcoming Releases" thread. It should not be in the Horror thread or the Action Thread. *The individual genre threads* (horror, action, etc.) are meant just for *reviews only* of DVDs you have seen. Second, I did create a separate thread that asked Celluloid Kid to post his items within already established threads based on the topic (Upcoming Releases, etc.) for one reason: the section was carefully laid out and created to highlight DVD reviews by anyone who wants to post one. However, suddenly he was posting a lot of individual news topics that were getting placed in separate threads when they could have been placed under their topics. When the Upcoming Releases news (for example)is placed altogether in its own thread, it stops dozens of individual threads from messing up the order of this special forum. Also, with all the new in one thread, it is easier to find the info, rather than scouring through page after page of different threads trying to find one item. (Ever try to find something back you read a week ago in the General Discussions forum and you go through page after page of threads trying to find it?) So, in a nutshell: 1. I am against this "Celluloid Kid's Upcoming DVD Threadthread" being created because it is mean and petty. 2. Upcoming release info in any genre belongs in the "Upcoming Releases" thread. 3. I am strongly opposed to a whole lot of topic threads being created when they would fit in one of the established threads. As I said, I was the one who was instrumental in getting this whole DVD forum established and I would like to keep it organized. filmlover
  15. You will have to forgive CineSage Jr. He loves the sound of his own opinions, wrong as they can be. (You'll notice he has to create a pun that he thinks is funny for every post he does.)
  16. Kyle, I enjoy Michael Dunn in pretty much everything, but I have to say the best villain on TV was Julie Newmar as Catwoman on "Batman." Villainous, sexy, caught between good and evil, slinky, seductive, and did I mention "sexy"? Julie Newmar. Sigh.
  17. *Patton (Blu-ray high definition)* If you have been hearing that the Blu-ray high-definition edition of "Patton" is spectacular, the reviews are right on the money. The clarity of the Blu-ray edition is truly incredible. I saw it in the theaters when it first came out and owned a DVD edition of it at one time, but never has it looked this great. When you first play the movie, you get the introduction by Francis Ford Coppola that preceded the standard DVD edition, and they have used the SD version of it here. Then it gets into the movie itself and from the moment you see in HD the immense American flag and then Scott making his speech, you are a goner. Incredible story wedded to an incredible print. This a 2-disc set. The first is the Blu-ray movie (plus an audio commentary by FFC). The second disc is the same as the second DVD in the standard 2-DVD set, and contains in SD the following special features: History Through the Lens: Patton - A Rebel Revisited documentary Patton's Ghost Corps documentary The Making of Patton documentary Production Still Gallery accompanied by Jerry Goldsmith's score Behind the Scenes Still Gallery accompanied by an audio essay on the historical Patton Trailer
  18. People keep thanking me, but not at the right time, LOL. In this case your thanks are to edgecliff, not me. And a few posts down, edgecliff thanked me but it should be to film fatale.
  19. Hi, film fatale, a thread on this was started a few weeks back: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=128971&start=30&tstart=120&messageID=8098709#8098709
  20. Kino has just announced they will be doing "Metropolis" on Blu-ray in 2009. Should be incredible. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1424
  21. Well, I saw "West Side Story" on Wednesday night at the Arclight, and I must admit I was very disappointed with the AFI's "new print". The print itself started with hiss noise during the overture, and the audio didn't sound stereo separated at all. The Arclight has a great sound system but the print seemed like all its audio was being crammed into the speakers of an old recordplayer, deep sound but smashed-up audio. The picture quality was far from great. Everyone in the cast, including the Jets, looked like they were covered in darker tan than a season of "Dancing with the Stars." On the plus side, it was still fun to watch the talents involved. The Arclight is going to have another one of their "2 tickets for 1" if you redeem 100 points from your Arclight membership this coming week with the next in the series on Wednesday, "Birdman of Alcatraz." That is like getting a ticket for $5 each. July looks to be interesting. They will have An American in Paris, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, A Star is Born (1954), Sabrina, and Rebel Without A Cause.
  22. A quick reminder that the deepdiscount.com (and probably dvdplanet.com) 20% off their discounted prices sale is scheduled to end on Sunday, the 22nd. They only hold this sale twice a year and the next one wont be until November or December. Between the two outlets (though I believe they are both owned by the same company), I picked up: Blu-ray: Ultimate Dirty Harry Collection Patton Sand Pebbles Longest Day DVD: Great Gatsby Peter Pan (stage productiuon) Rat Pack Ultimate Collection Popeye the Sailor vol. 2 Carmen Miranda Collection I Spy Season 2 I Spy Season 3 Rio Grande Three Stooges vol. 2 I might get one or two more before Sunday.
  23. *Celluloid*, I doubt you willl read this, but: 1. the Bond info has been reported by me back on the 5th and by Film Fatale on the 18th. 2. I mentioned L.A. Confidential back on the 14th. 3. Honey West I talked about several weeks back. Please try to do a search before posting duplicate info.
