filmlover replied to lzcutter's topic in TCM Program Challenges Archive
I am about half way typing up my schedule. I will have it in sometime this weekend. Then I can look at the other schedules. -
calvinme, this is definitely the thread to post all upcoming news, no matter the genre. The individual genre threads are mostly ofr people to write reviews of DVD they have seen in that particular genre.

I'm trying to recall...when will the next extra-20% off sale be at dvdplanet.com and deepdiscount.com? Anybody know? -
Though it won't be until November, Disney has announced they are going to be releasing a 2-DVD set of DR. SYN, ALIAS THE SCARECROW (aka The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh)!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!! FINALLY!!! It will be in metal packaging and will cost $32.99. I can't wait! From the Disney Blog: ?Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow,? which first aired as three separate episodes on Disney?s weekly TV show under the title ?The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh,? was edited for theatrical releases in England and the U.S. This DVD set includes all three of the original TV episodes plus the theatrical version of the film that was released in England.

I have asked nicely in different threads you have created to just post your items in existing threads, but still you do brand new threads. I figured if you didn't see them, you would have to see this notice! Anything that is upcoming can be listed in the Upcoming Releases thread. There are also threads for every genre here on the board (including Animation), already created and waiting. When I got this whole DVD forum section started, I wanted to retain a certain order to it so people could find everything quickly, so the individual threads were created for each genre, plus one for Upcoming Releases and one for Special Sales. The problem with starting new thread about one new piece of information like you have been doing is that it makes it hard for people to find anything. Please stay within the DVD Forum's guidelines. Thank you!

CelluloidKid, I don't get it. Do you read the listings? The Thief of Bagdad has already been listed below yours in great detail. You also post new threads outside the main ones listing information already in current threads, and also post those separate threads even though you are asked to only post within the Forum's established threads. Where is it that we are not getting through to you? Message was edited by: filmlover

I just finished watching the Kino DVD of "The Man Who Laughs" and I highly recommend it. I have to admit that I was under the impression all these years that it was a horror film, based on the image of Conrad Veidt's picture with that horrible grin (the inspiration for the Joker in Batman), but it was not that at all. It is a story of people. And Conrad Veidt is truly remarkable in the title role. His is a very heartbreaking performance, shown mainly though his eyes and gestures as the man afflicted with the permanent full smile because of a horrible operation done to him when he was a child. The print is excellent, with a great film score. There are lots of photos and press material in the special features section, as well as film of the home lives of Veidt and other foreign stars in Hollywood. Well worth getting.

I love all versions of Thief of Bagdad , so I will be looking forward to this one. The extras look great, but I hate that cover artwork: http://criterion.com/asp/full_cover_display.asp?id=431 - SPECIAL EDITION DOUBLE-DISC SET FEATURES: - Restored digital transfer - Two audio commentaries: one featuring renowned directors Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese, and one with film and music historian Bruce Eder - New interviews with special-effects experts Ray Harryhausen, Dennis Muren, and Craig Barron about the technical achievements of The Thief of Bagdad - The Lion Has Wings (1940), Alexander Korda's propaganda film for the English war effort, during The Thief of Bagdad's production hiatus - Excerpts from codirector Michael Powell's audio dictations for his autobiography - Selections of music by composer Miklos R?zsa not used in the final film - Stills gallery featuring rare Dufaycolor images of the film's production - Theatrical trailer - PLUS: A booklet featuring new essays by film scholars Andrew Moor and Ian Christie

<b>Reminder: please post within threads already set up</b>
filmlover replied to filmlover's topic in Classic Film DVD Reviews
Some people have to be reminded again. Reminder: Please post within individual threads that were set up when I helped get this Forum created. We are getting so many threads being started for so many things that could all be in one place that it makes it hard to find anything. Individual threads were created at the very beginning of the Forum and still exist here. There is a thread dedicated to Upcoming Releases. Please post your info in there if ytou have something to share with the rest. A good idea id to check to see if someone already has listed the info before you do. There is a thread for Special Sales. There are individual threads for reviewing classic DVDs broken down into genres (Western, War, Horror, etc.) where you can post your reviews. This keeps the Classic Film DVD Reviews Forum a much neater place and better organzized.. Thanks.
