shearer, the synopsis they provided for The Lodger was for the Fox version with Laird Cregar, not the Hitch version.
Not sure yet I will get this because I have the Criterion box set with several of the titles.

Me, too. My choice will be the Blu-ray set, but if they just have the standard DVD set being the only one with all the extras, I guess I will be getting both because it is my favorite movie. And, like you, I have previous versions, too. They saw me coming.

LOL, thanks for providing a laugh today. It's Nelson Eddy, not Nelson Riddle. Nelson Riddle was a bandleader. And the movie you are thinking of is "Rose Marie."
-
markfp, also give The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz a watch.

Hi, MissG, you can find descriptions underneath the photos of what is there and what format they will be on.
-
MissG, it's okay when they are not in stock. You can still order them (as long as it is not a future release) and when they come in they will charge you the sale price. And sometimes it doesn't take long at all for them to come back in. For one order I did, I ordered several items, one of which was out of stock, and they sent what they had. A day or two later, the out of stock item was sent to me.

WOWWOWWOW!! First look at the art and contents for Casablanca Ultimate Edition, JFK Ultimate Edition, A Christmas Story Ultimate Edition, plus some others:

Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set is also coming to both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The standard DVD set will be 3 DVDs. Both will include 40 minutes of special features, 2 feature-length commentaries, branded travel-related premiums, a photo book, and much more.

The JFK set will include:a 3-disc JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition on DVD, including special packaging, 3 hours of bonus content and collectible memorabilia, as well as an all new documentary, The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings. This title will also be available on Blu-ray Disc format in Digibook packaging.

A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition will soon be announced, set to include the previous 2-disc DVD special edition along with exclusive premiums only available in the set. We're waiting to hear if any new disc-based content will be included, but we do know that this will also be released on Blu-ray Disc format.
There are also details about a few more recent titles, too, at the link.

Hi, ff, actually, you will find mention of Metropolis back a page on the 20th. The other Kino title got a mention, I believe, back a few weeks ago when I posted the newst about Kino going Blu.
-
There will be a two-week delay on the Blu-ray release of How the West Was Won, moving from its August date until September 9th, now tying in day and date with the standard DVD release.
-
Early word from the Home Medio Expo in Las Vegas is that Warner Bros. will be releasing (possibly this Fall) Casablanca: Ultimate Collectors Edition and JFK: Ultimate Collectors Edition. It is hard to imagine what they could possible add to the previous 2-DVD package of Casablanca or the box set they came out with several years ago to make this the "Ultimate Collectors Edition," but since it is my favorite movie I am excited.
Unknown if there will be Blu versions of these yet.

CK, as mentioned before, we only need the basics, not a synopsis. It's also good to cut through all the puffery of a publicity piece and whittle it down to what people just need to know.

It's gotten past the point of PMs. I don't have as much time to post as I used to, but I do watch over this forum since I helped bring it about, and I felt this needed saying here in this thread since I thought it was a bad idea and it should be closed.

Snorky says: We have a bit of history and although I think we're both on the same side I don't expect you to understand or agree with what I do here.
Don't expect me to care that much about your opinion.
Snorky, in the past you have thanked me for letting you know when you go over the line in pursuit of somebody, and that was what I was doing here. And sometimes in the past you have gone way over the edge with long, long theories of who is who. I look in on the the General Discussions forum to read what is going on occasionally but not that often. I've even looked the other way on occasion here, but I do notice when you reappear in some forum I am reading, it is usually to go after someone and to start antagonizing threads. For what purpose? I don't want to see the DVD forum get disrupted like the others have. The Classic Film DVD Reviews forum is a news and review area about DVDs (and Blu-ray) and that's it; it is not a personality-expressing forum.

Edgecliff wrote: Both films are also supposed to released in Blu Ray as well.
Arggh, WB has announced the Blu versions will be delayed until early 2009. The standard DVDs are still on time.

This was intended more as ironic...

ham, as far as the movie version, I admit I didn't care for it. One thing the TV series had going for it was the true trust and partnership West and Gordon had with each other. The movie had them always at odds with each other, just like many other films do now. Mission Impossible, the movie, suffered from the lack of trust within the team members and ultimately the betrayal by Phelps. In other words, throwing out everything that we considered important (okay, maybe it was 40 years ago, but are we truly this cynical now?).

film fatale, that news about "Metropolis" is incredible. You should start a thread about it in the General Discussions forum because it is very important news to film fans like us.
