Sounds like a lot of fun.

Ma'am,
Lawyer Edward Arnold showed up and much as I pleaded he pay my $2 fine, he wants to take it to a higher court. He's dared them to throw the book at me.
And they did. Tell him to just pay the $2.

I don't know, ma'am. When we received your bail, they asked me to go down by the river to catch snipe. I was unlucky and returned with an empty sack.. However, they were gone. I did follow a trail of men with blackened eyes, and came upon another tavern whose owner said they drank it dry and moved on in search of ale. Sorry, ma'am.
-
And since each movie has two DVDs, that's $3 each.
-
Thank ya, ma'am.

To Interim Dean Lzcutter,
Please excuse football coach O'Brien, boxing teacher Cagney, and student teacher (meself) from the enterprise. Seems, from stories we have heard this morning, we got into a drinking Challenge and took umbrage to a misguided fellow taverner by the name of McLaglen's piece of -- I mean, assertion -- that music teacher George M. Cohan couldn't dance a jig as well as a certain Mr. Kelly. Well, it led to a slight disagreement. We shall return when we can, and would be ever so grateful if you could send the dear school mistress Miss Natwick to bail us out.
Thank ye,

And thank you all for the nice words about the covers. I get a kick out of doing them each Challenge time.

(Now, remember, no conspiring together to pick the same items to drive me crazy, lol. )
4th place choice (since 2nd and 3rd are taken as Dewey and Matt get those choices) goes to MOVIEMAN. You get 1 from the TCM list and 1 DVD. Send me your top four choices from each in order.
5th place: Okay, you all planned this to torture me, didn?t you? We have a 4-way tie for 5th place. BENWHOWELL, FREDMILL, JARHFIVE, and MARIAH23. One of you will get the collection of movie poster postcards, and I have a few items of similar TCM merchandise that I will see each gets. Item will be sent based on what is available in the stack.

Seeing that TCM will be doing a few of her films on Saturday reminded me of something that happened to me last summer. I was fortunate enough to attend the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall. Patricia Neal was a presenter with Bill Irwin (I think it might have been him). He went off cuecards for a minute and said to her that he understood she was the first recipent of the Tony Award for best actress back around 1947, but that someone stole her award and it was never recovered. Irwin and the Tonys then gave her a replacement Tony right then. It was a nice moment.
Later on, I was at the Tony Party and after making my way from the buffet with my plate of food, I was wandering around the tables looking for a free spot to sit down. I finally saw a spot between two women. I asked the woman on the left if the place was taken. It wasn't. I sat down. After a few minutes of eating, I turned my head to the woman on my right, and realized I was sitting next to Patricia Neal. We spoke for a few minutes very nicely, but in my head all I could hear was, "You're Patricia Neal!"

There are other channels besides TCM?! When did this happen?
-
Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. And jarhfive, if I had been voting, I think the Hildegarde Withers Mysteries was my favorite box set. But, heavens, if I had voted, it would have been a two-way tie and I couldn't take that again!
CONGRATULATIONS, ALL!
I will post the prize info within the next few hours.

While I am preparing the post on the prizes, here's something to look at it:
Those who have been with me before in the Challenges know that at the end of the Challenge I like to imagine what the Now Playing covers might look like if these had been real weeks we scheduled. Here's what I have come up with:
Here's what I imagine for allieharding's cover:

for Dewey:

for Movieman:

for MattHelm:

for SinatraFan:

for Filmhistorian:

for Sugarpuss:

for Sweetsmellofsuccess:

for Jarhfive:

for Benwhowell:

for Fredmill:

for Fedya:

and for Mariah23, here's what I imagine the cover would look like:

I am a little confused by the post. Rita Hayworth is TCM's only Star of the Month in April.

Oh, boy, this has been some contest! And all the counts are in, including PMs, and an email from path40a with his votes (which went, by the way, to Schedule: Sweetsmellofsuccess and Boxset:Fredmill38). I've double checked everything and --
Regrettably, the ending was one I was dreading. The reason being...we have a three-way split for first place.
SCHEDULE:
Allieharding: 5
Dewey: 5
MattHelm: 5
Movieman: 4
Benwhowell: 2
Fredmill: 2
Jarhfive: 2
Mariah23: 2
SinatraFan: 1
Sweetsmellofsuccess: 1
And for Boxset, we do have a winner:
Dewey: 6
Jarhfive: 5
Sugarpuss: 5
Allieharding: 3
Benwhowell: 3
Fredmill: 2
SinatraFan: 2
Sweetsmellofsuccess: 1
Mariah23: 1
Matthelm: 1
Before I continue, I would like to pay a salute to two people:Fedya and Filmhistorian, both of whom had spectacular schedules I loved, but didn't get any votes this time around (not quite true, there was one for Fedya but the person was registered after January 31st, and thus not eligible to vote; sorry). I was just looking over Fedya's schedule again and there were so many great themes: from the moment at the beginning of George O'Hanlon looking over the 8-ball and a title card saying, "So You Want to Program TCM", to the Eve Arden salute, the Glenda Farrell box set, the May 2nd birthday salute to various stars, Star of the Month Charles Laughton, and so many more great themes. And, Filmhistorian, I loved your tributes to Gordon MacRae, Jack Lemmon, Michael Caine, and others, and your Trials and Tribulations Tuesday and more. If it helps, I recall there was a Challenge a few months ago where I think I only received one vote. The next Challenge I did I won, and here I am. So I want you both to stay and do more Challenges, okay?
Alright, now since we have that three-way tie, the hard decision falls to me to break the tie with my vote. I've just spent awhile looking at all three again. And my vote goes to...allieharding. Every schedule was great, but allieharding's choice of Glynis Johns near the start got me where I live. And there were so many films throughout the schedule I had never seen, and that was probably the reason I voted that way.
Now, as far as prizes go, I will go into details in the morning about how we will do that. Everyone who contributed a schedule will get something! For now, get a good night's sleep.
Congratulations again to Dewey for Best Box Set. And to the next Challenge moderator, allieharding, for the Best Schedule.

And we are closed!!!!!!! The results in a few minutes.

Voting will expire in two hours, Wednesday, March 14th, at midnight Pacific time! Anyone who was registered on these message boards on January 31, 2007 or before can vote in this fun-only contest. See the notes in the very first post on this thread on how to vote.
Attention: Filmhistorian and mariah23. You both took part in the contest, so you can vote, too.

Amazon has a special on today, the four Ultimate James Bond box sets, as a bundle for $125 (65% off). That's even better than Costco's $33.99 each during their special sale, but with Costco you can buy the sets individually..

We certainly have come a long way with technology, haven't we? Remember when just having a remote control for a TV was a major thing?
-
Dish Network's DVR or Tivo...hmmm, The Prince or the Pauper?
lol, sorry, Lynn, I have to go with the DVR as it holds up to 100 hours. And with my TCM habits, I need it. And, actually, mine is what they call a Dual DVR, so it can record two channels at once, and control the TVs in the livingroom and bedroom. Of course, I can also be playing back a third item at the same time.
-
Keep the votes coming!
-
Bartlett, thanks for the kind words.
You should copy your post and paste it in the Voting thread already set up for the Challenge:

I know this is a very tough choice with so many great schedules. I am just glad that as host of this Challenge I don't have to make a decision unless there is a tie.

Keep the votes coming.

I thought it would be interesting if us fellow board members could be a TCM host for a week What movies would you would pick to show.
lol, movieman's correct. When I read the above, I thought, "Umm, what have we been doing in the TCM Programming Challenges all this time?!! And how could drdoolittle who's been here a year miss the all the Challenge posts offering people a chance to schedule such a week?"

if you could design the now playing cover for your favorite star!!

Amazing that your thread appeared yesterday within hours of me posting the TCM Challenge voting thread with 13 covers I designed for imaginary Now Playing covers based on contestants' schedules, a practice I have been doing for several months and Challenges now. It's a lot of incredibly hard work but I enjoy doing it.

I figure I must have spent many long hours (days, even) in designing the approximately 30 or so covers in the Challenges so far this last year.
I hope you didn't have to put as much work yesterday morning into coming up with the idea.
And, my gosh, how in the world did you come up with the "If You Were Host" thread in which you ask board members what they would program? So amazing an idea, especially since it followed on the heels within hours of the close of the month long TCM Challenge, where board members create a week's programming, something we have had five Challenge contests so far in the same General Discussions forum in the last year, and the one that was on the Forum in bold letters for a month. Phew, you would not imagine how much very hard work that whole month was!
Hope you didn't have to put as much work into coming uo with the "If you were host" idea.
