It's definitely Scarlett. A gentlemen always lets a lady go first.

Perhaps someone will > again count up the minutes of programming and show me > that the majority of TCM air time is spent on black > and white films. > > No, thought not. Would it do any good?

"baglappers," "sheep"... I apologize about the hyenas crack in the Lion king reference. Actually, if we who like a lot of what TCM does are to be referred to as "sheep," then a similar animal reference must be found to describe the people who are negative and the word that better describes it than hyenas would be "mules". Mules dig their feet in and won't budge no matter what. And we all know that another word for a mule is a ja-- Never mind. This is all getting too much name calling. And why? We disagree, let it go at that. But don't complain when we respond to your attacks. Message was edited by: filmlover

> Just because I don't applaud every stupid idea TCM > comes up with doesn't make me a naysayer. lol, sorry, folks, there's nothing I could say that would make that funnier.
-
And I just remembered an old joke that is appropriate about the challenge and their complaining. "It's like being a Nazi Quaker. They declare war and then refuse to go." LOL!

> You can be sure the sheep will say "bring it on!" Sigh, "sheep." I thought things were getting too quiet around the boards and wondered what happened to the naysayers. They were vocal as all get out prior to the TCM challenge but then died out. I guess they were just waiting for something like this to pounce on. lol, kind of reminds me of the three hyenas in The Lion King. (um, somebody will probably have to explain that to them since it is a recent movie.) Anyway, to paraphrase a quote from "Give 'Em Hell, Harry", sometimes I think that if they ever found themselves accidentally saying something positive, they would throw in something negative just to keep in practice.

Well, it should make it easier on the schedule. No longer having to do two time zones, just saying 8PM and that's it. Fred, interesting list. Some things have come true: When I am in an office at work and I hear the little buzz that the lights are about to go off, I just have to wave my hands to keep them on (of course, people in the office building across the way probably think I am as crazy as hell). We all have computers in the home. Well, we have super stores but not the part of everything made in U.S.A. We do have cars that run off energy. We have microwaves, cel phones, and I look good no matter how old I am. (okay, so I lied about the last item.)

Too easy, huh? Your turn.

Okay, try this: When it leads to murder, Cherry is after a mindless aberration, who enlisted a drover in finding the Only Woman. The drover encounters a woman who hustled a hustler.

Hi, Scarlett, Actually, the way this game works is you take a movie and in place of the characters as they are in the film, you use another character from a different film played by the same actor. The trick is then for the other person playing the game to name the first movie, then the actors and in which other film they played the parts mentioned. So, for example, using a simple clue: A sarcastic reporter falls in love with a sinking ship survivor. That would translate as Gene Kelly in Inherit the Wind and Debbie Reynolds in The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Then you could place their names in and think, "Hmm, a character played by Gene Kelly falls in love with a character played by Debbie Reynolds. What film could that be?". Obviously, the film is Singin' in the Rain. So you would list the answer as: Singin' in the Rain Gene Kelly in Inherit the Wind Debbie Reynolds in The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Another simple example: A paranoic sea captain reunites with a nun accompanied by a man who smokes too much. Film: Casablanca Humphrey Bogart in The Caine Mutiny Ingrid Bergman in Bells of St. Mary's Paul Henreid in Now Voyager (smoking two cigarettes) Those, as I said, are simple clues. Sometimes, they get very hard or complex (in the case of something like an all-star film like Murder on the Orient Express in which you might have several actors in the clue and you have to track down each of the other films the characters refer to). In the case of "Ringo meets death," I screwed up because I got a character wrong. I was referring to John Wayne as Ringo in Stagecoach and, here is where I made my mistake, Max von Sydow as Death in The Seventh Seal. The film with the two of them would be The Greatest Story Ever Told in which von Sydow played Jesus and John Wayne played the centurion. But my error was that von Sydow played the knight, not Death, in The Seventh Seal. So I had to cancel that one. Check on some of the previous posts in this thread and you will see how it works.

First time I have been able to get one of these in awhile and Miss Scarlett gets it, too. LOL! Message was edited by: filmlover

Gad, Scarlett, we must have been thinking exactly along the same lines but you typed faster.

Singin' in the Rain

Totally ignore that one. I screwed up the clue.

I looked and I didn't see any mention of extras. And I wonder if these will be the old snaplock cases? Some of these have been in other compilation sets, so I wonder if they are just remarketing things they have around?

Anthony Hopkins

Yes, it must be seen in the original Italian! Message was edited by: filmlover

I think it would be Marilyn Monroe. I'd like to get to know the Norma Jean part of her and maybe make her feel she wasn't alone.

I saw a trailer for the Frank Capra Premiere box set coming out from Columbia on the new DVD release of Memoirs of a Geisha. The trailer said it will contain Mr. Smith, Mr. Deeds, Platinum Blonde, and a number of others (no Meet John Doe or Lost Horizon that I could detect from the trailer). Each title already seems to be available on DVD. It did not mention a release date or price and I cannot find it mentioned on Amazon or on the Columbia site itself.
