  1. I have also found that if you get into using blank DVDs that the available fill time time can actually be more than what is generally advertised by the DVD maker. I use TDK DVDs and the standard is for 2 hours worth at SP but I have discovered that I get 124 min. The 90 min setting has 92 minutes worth of space. The LP or 3 hr length can get 186 min. I never go beyond that because of too much decline in quality. This longer time is great if you want to plan to include in Osborne's intros, or if it is a movie that runs a little past 90, 120, or 180 when you are there.
  2. You might check your sound connections. Try taping another channel and see if you are still missing the sound.
  3. Good news for you. All This and Heaven, Too will be runagain on May 17th during Bette Davis month. A good place to look for old films is Amazon. If they don't have it, they list dealers who have used ones.
  4. I'm sorry, that was too vague. The wife of a bandleader named Glenn falls for an escaped killer named Glenn.
  5. Okay dokey... An escaped killer wins the heart of a bandleader's wife.
  6. re To Kill a Mockingbird...I ALWAYS get affected by the end of the courtroom scene where Gregory Peck is leaving and the entire balcony rises with the man saying to the girl, "Stand up...your father's passing." That is one of the greatest moments in movie history.
  7. It isn't easy being this brilliant.
  8. Sarah Siddon Award? All About Eve
  9. There might be a problem with his early career because he was under contract to 20th Century Fox, and TCM wouldn't have them in the library.
  10. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and Austin Powers. Roger Ebert
  11. I am glad I managed to record this for it had a number of amazing bits in it. Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy (in a classic but hilarious routine with Lupe Velez), and to top it off an appearance by Mickey Mouse with a color cartoon right in the middle of it. Not sure how MM got in a MGM pic but it was sure startling.
  12. I'll have to post tomorrow morning. See you then.
  13. Very funny! Too bad some movies are just like this, lol.
  14. Great clue about Downtown to Down South. A ref to Petula Clark. "Finian's Rainbow" Fred Astaire in On the Beach and the perfect fool is a reference to Ed Wynn, and his son being Keenan Wynn.
  15. lol, it's my own fault I didn't get your vote...it was the war films in my listing. "War, war, war, that's all you men talk about. I swear the next one who mentions..." and I did. LOL.
  16. Correct. I would have also accepted "The Out of Towners" for the hotelier.
  17. And the president makes a pass at Galahad and Galahad flattens him.
  18. perhaps people are uncomfortable with the > non-confidential voting (afraid of offending one of > the participants)? I wondered about that, too, when I first posted. Maybe next time we can figure out a way to do confidential voting to a website only you can see, path. A thought went through my head about, "Well, when I vote for one, that could mean the others who contributed will not vote for me", but the whole was about having fun and programming our own week. It was our own individual network: TCM - Totally Chosen by Me, lol.
  19. Okay, I guess I'm next. A president teams up with a prostitute to find hidden money but the president is jealous of a hotelier and makes fun of Sir Galahad.
  20. And we've gotten the votes from fellow contributors MattHelm and allieharding (and me, of course), but we've still to hear from hlywdkjk, lzcutter, and jarhfive. Your vote counts.
  21. It's Casablanca for me, too. It is perfect in so many ways. The casting, right down to the smallest roles. The humor and timing of the different story angles coming bam-bam-bam together in each scene. Rick telling Strasser that there are certain parts of New York the Nazis shouldn't try to invade. The singing of the French anthem to the point it brings tears to Yvonne. Renault: "I'm shocked, shocked to find there's gambling going on in here." "Here's looking at you, kid." Rick, doing what's right and sending Ilsa away with Laszlo. Then getting to kill a Nazi. Then walking off with your buddy to fight the good fight. And so many more great moments. Casablanca is the Essential film to see of American movies
  22. And I am outta here for today.
