  1. Wednesday, June 14th, 1939 Letr's start off with two fashion pieces that appeared today. (By the way, I hope you are all checking out GlamAmor's Cinema Style thread and links in the My Favorites forum. It's a great look at classic movies and also places in Hollywood that bring back the Golden Age of the city!)
  2. I don't, but my guess would be local advertising was paid for by the theater itself. Not sure if they had a % thing worked out as far as advertising costs. However, I do believe that the reason Donald Duck is mentioned in the ads has nothing to do with Disney paying for mentioning him, but rather that theaterowners knew he was more popular than some of the movies being advertised and would bring people in.
  3. Monday, June 12th, 1939 A bonus since we are article-lite this particular day: Some color ads from 1939
  4. Sunday, June 11th, 1939 Regular articles and ads return tomorrow. Here are some more photos from that Washington weekly that came out htis week

  8. Sunday, June 4th, 1939 Regular articles and ads will returm tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some pictures from a Washington weekly this particular week.

  11. > {quote:title=GlamAmor wrote:}{quote} > I have the exact same picture in my [visit to the Biltmore|http://www.glamamor.com/2010/08/out-and-about-moca-and-biltmore.html] that can be magnified quite large to see everyone along with the 1937 Awards Dinner Legend that accompanies that photo. The legend doesn't point out those two, and I've gone over the photo again and again and don't see their shining blonde hair anywhere. lol They must have been seated out of view. Too bad! I'd like to recommend to anyone who comes across my post below with the link for the Biltmore AA picture instead go to GlamAmor's. Though both our pictures are the same size, you can get much more of the hotel from her link. Regrettably, with the new site's layout and all, it is impossible to go back after 24 hours to edit out anything, so I can't erase my link. Ah, well, it serves as a reminder to me to let Miss K post the pics in this thread because she probably has already covered anything I could think of, and in depth. : )
  12. from blu-ray.com: In an early announcement to retailers, Kino Video have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray and DVD Russian director Sergei Eisenstein's Stachka a.k.a Strike (1925). Newly remastered. Street date is August 30th. (There has already been a DVD release of it, but this will be remastered.) http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6567 (There has already been a DVD release of it, but this will be remastered.) Also on the Soviet front, Kino is releasing The Cigarette Girl of Mosselprom on DVD on the same day.
  13. Forgot to mention the items below were from Thursday, June 1, 1939.
  14. Gad, has it really been 5 full months of 1939 already? The year is going by so quickly! So many great films already; I wonder what the next seven months will hold? ; )
  15. Wow, I am so impressed (yes, again), K. Seeeing inside the places you get access to is a rare treat, You should do a TV show, call it, "Inside the L.A. That I Love."
