  1. Regular articles and ads will return tomorrow. For today, from this week, here is an article and poictures of what was playing in the capital
  2. "Wow!" for both the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and Esther Williams' salutes. Your columns are filled with so many photos that it is like re-experiencing the movies themselves. And you brought back memories of last year's festival with the poolside pics of the aquacade. Your columns are filled with sweet nostalgia without even trying to be so. Keep them coming. : )
  3. Maybe it is tied into those people who are claiming the world comes to an end tomorrow, May 21st.
  4. Rumor has it Universal will issue *The Incredible Shrinking Man* on Blu-ray on August 30.
  5. Song of Songs and This is the Night now available from TCM: http://shop.tcm.com/product.asp?eref=precodenewsletter2011&sku=D27119
  6. I've heard that it will probably never come, that they want peace. Hey, I wonder if that was some fifth column group saying that? They probably do want peace..."a piece of this, a piece of that."
  7. Kyle, I think the $40,000 they went for is reasonable, considering their part in Hollywood history. Probably a tax writeoff for somebody. What gets me is the fees of $7200 the high bidder had to pony up to the auction house.
  8. Hi, Jonas, It should be noted That Battle of Algiers and If... are not DVD updates. They are not releasing new ones of that on DVD in August. Those are still the same editions as before. What they are releasing in August are Blu-rays of those titles. Orpheus is new to Blu and single-release DVD (it had been available in a boxset before). All will be available on DVD and Blu-ray except Koreyoshi, which is on DVD only.
  9. Blu-ray.com just printed some photo comparisons from WB of the restoration done for *Ben-Hur*. The site below has more details and photos http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6414&page=
  10. Sunday, May 14, 1939 Regular ads and articles return tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some more 1939 things to fill up this day : ) Edited by: filmlover on May 14, 2011 7:54 AM
  11. Jean Parker, Guy Williams, and Edd Byrnes appear on TCM today
  12. Well, the multiplex began to form in the early Seventies, though when I was a kid in the Sixties, we had an Odeon theatre that had two theatres inside.
  13. I know, that's the way I felt. And here is one of the pictures from Amazon of what is in the set: (Gad, I miss when we could do pictures bigger.) The set: Warner's long awaited Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com. In fact, Amazon appears to have an EXCLUSIVE offer for the BD set bundled with a DVD edition of Orson Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons. The SRP is $79.98 but Amazon has it for just $55.99. According to the back of its DVD cover art, Ambersons appears to be the existing 88-minute version. The package also includes the excellent RKO 281, lots of paperwork (including replica documents and poster art cards) and a collector's book. http://digitalbits.com/#mytwocents
  14. Finance: "In the interest of "equal time", the August SOTM should be "Singing Indians"." Not Bollywood!!!
