What's the name of the movie... I think it was Marlene Dietrich and Robert Taylor, or actors who look like them. She's high society, refuses to marry him because he's poor. She somehow starts losing her fortune. She makes headlines whenever she visits somewhere, but the headlines get smaller and smaller as she gets poorer and poorer. She finally ends up with the guy in the end, but then he has a truck accident. She has no money for the medicine that will save him. She turns to prostitution. Her landlady understands and as she's going out to turn her first trick the landlady says something like, "Don't you think you need a bit more rouge?" The landlady is the same actress who quoted the Ellis Island phrase, "Give us your tired, your poor..." in the movie I Remember Mama.
This is a visually beautiful movie that shows life in Monte Carlo in the 50s. I enjoyed it for this reason and for the most part only this reason :3 It's a story of romance and gambling and also Marlene Dietrich's only Italian made film. What did you think of the romance between De Sica and Dietrich? Did it work for you? Remember to leave a comment and subscribe for more reviews!
After watching "Phone Call from a Stranger," I felt like watching another classic that revolved around plane crashes...I ended up with "No Highway in the Sky," and I have to say it was a great watch. As we grow nearer to the holidays, I review a movie about travel...and plane crashes! If you are traveling for Thanksgiving or Christmas, this movie may not be right for you at this time! Overall, a great thriller! What did you think of it? Write comments below and don't forget to subscribe on YouTube for future reviews!
I saw this movie about a year ago, and I fell in love instantly. I highly recommend you watch this movie if you like war/romance films! The best gypsy movie ever in my opinion.
