Sidney Toler in 1938 as Charlie Chan for Charlie Chan in Honolulu Hello TCM Message Board Community Members- The topic of this post is about Sidney Toler and I have information about him I would like to share here. Before I get into the subject of this discussion I would like to mention this my first time interacting on an official movie community board. When I was in college I kept the TV switched to TCM and have been a avid fan of classics since then ( maybe earlier in life too!) I am a member of a number of film groups on Facebook and I am administrator for two Gregory Peck groups. I help moderate several others. I would love to interact with anyone who responds to this post! I would like to introduce myself. I am Lauren Born Ritchie and I am honored and privileged to reintroduce Sidney Toler to this film community the Hollywood Actor also as a Playwright, Theatre Director and my second cousin (yes, I can confidently confirm I am Mr. Toler's living relative) Born Hooper G. Toler, better known as Sidney Toler. Most if not all are familiar with his success as the Chinese American Police Detective Charlie Chan. Respectfully honoring Warner Oland and Roland Winters also cast as Charlie Chan. Sidney played supporting roles in 50 films and was highly regarded as a comic actor on the Broadway Stage. I am delighted in this newest venture of film discovery and history, and proud of my ancestor. I am all about family and eager at the opportunity to learn more about Sidney, sharing and learning about his passion for acting, preserving his life and film legacy. I encourage those in this film community to your continued support of his film work. Thank you, cousin Sidney for taking the chance in pursuing an acting career. You are an inspiration.
