  1. "...Cast Out This Wicked Dream Which Has Seized My Heart..." https://vimeo.com/167618734 Here is a video tribute to a few of our favorite movies that depict the seedy, spooky side of Hollywood. These are some of the films that served as inspiration for our new film Golden Vanity -goldenvanitymovie.com - a one-woman feature about our very own over-the-hill, acid-tongued starlet Mabel Montgomery-Mayflower. Can you spot all the movies in the video? What are your favorites? What other movies would you consider part of the 'Hollywood Gothic' tradition?

  4. Hello fellow film noir fans, Like all of you I love film noir - grew up watching it and even wrote several plays inspired by it (all published and widely produced). I also taught a college course in it. So, I’m the author of a new book with a totally different look at film noir, “Film Noir production: the Whodunit of the Classic American Mystery Film” from Routledge. Focal Press. 6. More sad news to report everyone; Lauren Bacall passed away today at the age of 89. Another classic star and timeless beauty has left our midst. No one combined that sense of earthiness and cool, controlled emotion like Bacall, and she will be terribly missed. She had such class, and her warmheartedness and sense of humor were well-known to all who worked with her. I'm so heartbroken over the great ones that are leaving us.
