what movie is this scene from and who are the actors in that?

Hello all! I'm hoping that someone here can help me. I told my dad that I would help him find the name of a western film or TV episode that he saw when he was a little kid (born in 1966). There is one scene he recalls from it which he describes as a scene between a young person and an adult. They're standing on a porch watching a man ride away on a horse into the sunset. The older one tells the younger one something along the lines of "Don't watch him ride out of sight or else you'll never see him again." He seems to think this was the last scene of the movie/episode. He saw this on TV but he doesn't remember if it was a show or a film and he doesn't remember who played in it or if it was in color or black and white. He wants to know the name of this movie/show because he watched it with his father who has recently passed and is interested in watching it again. I know this isn't much to go off of. I tried to search around online to find it myself but haven't had any luck. If anyone here can help, it would mean a lot to me. Thanks 😀

In 1949 a movie called "Sand" was filmed in Colorado. It was about a show horse that escapes into the wilderness fighting off mountain lions and such. Corny but it received an Academy Award nomination for cinematography. Three years ago I founded the Silverton Western Movie Festival here in Colorado, showcasing some of the movies filmed in the area. This one I cannot get. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox. A copy is in the UCLA vault. But I am at a total dead end in terms of rights and getting a DVD made for my Western Movie Festival. I cannot even determine who has the rights to the film. 20th Century Fox does not have the rights (apparently owing to a Supreme Court case in the early 1990s). UCLA does not have authority to make a DVD. A copyright research firm offered to do a report for $800 but that would likely still leave me in limbo. Any suggestions? (At this point I will take a bootleg copy).
