filmlover
I'll definitely be getting the Blu version. It's great having a region-free player. Amazon UK has a placeholder for it showing the Blu-ray cover: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002J91V3A
HollywoodGolightly
If it's region-free, I might be getting it as well. And that is a sweet-looking cover.
edgeciff
Is this about $50 US dollars? Pretty expensive if so. And how about shipping? Will wait for the American release if forthcoming.
HollywoodGolightly
Well, I wouldn't be buying it right away! Many of the UK DVDs and blu-rays go on sale a few months later and sell for significantly less.

filmlover
from classicflix.com VCI has pushed back the release date for A Walk in the Sun (Restored Collector's Edition) to November 24th. However, the wait should be worth it. Additional time is needed for the restoration process and for an additional bonus feature (The Fighting Men of the Texas Division Featurette). http://www.classicflix.com/street-date-change-added-features-walk-a-534.html?osCsid=f042e13f945f66799b68baedafefb36c
filmlover
Just a small bit in today's digitalbits.com, but mixed in with the bad news is some hopeful news: There are apparently no plans to release additional Looney Tunes Golden Collections on DVD, and (as we said) the shorts above appear on previous Golden Collection releases. But (and file this in The Rumor Mill-worthy category) sources tell us that there's a chance you MIGHT start seeing classic Looney Tunes product on Blu-ray from WHV in 2010 and beyond. Fingers crossed.
HollywoodGolightly
Found something else of interest in digitalbits.com today: 20th Century Fox will release a Say Anything: 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray on 11/3. Many consider this one of the best movies of the 80s!
filmlover
VCI is releasing *Summer Storm* (1944) with Linda Darnell and George Sanders on Oct. 20th. filmlover
Very nice double-page spread ad for Wizard of Oz's Ultimate Collector's Edition release: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/questex/hom441741PLM/index.php?startid=Cover1&WidgetId=null&BookId=297c48c7de12acf452abc8b31f19fb0e#/2 When you get to that page, clicking on the page anywhere will increase the size. You can also go back to the look at the cover because it is also for Oz.
HollywoodGolightly
This was probably mentioned earlier, but the copy of When the Lion Roars that's included in the blu-ray set, is it going to be HD or SD?
filmlover
Lion Roars will be SD. I believe what they are doing is taking the two discs from that set and inserting them in here.
HollywoodGolightly
Thank you, filmlover. And in light of the sad news today (See Hot Topics) regarding director John Hughes, I'll mention a movie that might otherwise have gone unmentioned here. Paramount is releasing a Special "Those Aren't Pillows!" edition of Planes, Trains and Automobiles on Oct. 20th. Rest in peace, John Hughes. filmlover
Warner news today states they are putting a moratorium on The Exorcist, Doctor Zhivago, and Caddyshack, for reintroduction in 2010 on DVD (and, hopefully, Blu-ray). So this likely pushes back that Exorcist Blu release date until then. Would like to see Zhivago in HD.
HollywoodGolightly
Warner Home Video has announced that the upcoming Blu-ray digibook release of *Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory* will now be released on October 6th. Originally scheduled for an October 20th release date, no reason was given for the release date bump and no technical specs or special features have changed. Regarding the WHV title on moratorium - I also look forward to Dr. Zhivago on blu-ray, though not as much as with Lawrence of Arabia (though the latter is not a WHV title). Extras include: * Commentary with Dennis Hopper * Easy Rider: Shaking The Cage Also - thedigitalbits.com has new information on the extras in the UCE of *Gone with the Wind* - filmlover enjoys posting on that movie a lot so I'll leave it for him to post. HollywoodGolightly
VCI has set a November 3rd release date for *Buck Rogers (70th Anniversary Edition)*. The newly restored and remastered release is expected to be a 2-disc set.
