filmlover
I'd forgotten about Moviola: The Scarlett O'Hara War (and a good part of me is dreading seeing it again with the majority of the casting they did): "Moviola, The Scarlet O'Hara War mixes fact with fiction in recreating producer David O. Selznick's search for an actress to star in Gone With the Wind. Tony Curtis plays Selznick, who turns his search into a major publicity ploy to sustain interest in his upcoming film. Among the likely candidates for the role of Scarlett O'Hara are Carole Lombard (Sharon Gless), Joan Crawford (Barrie Youngfellow) and Tallulah Bankhead (Carrie Nye). A subplot concerns two bogus talent scouts who pretend to be working for Selznick in order to extract money and sexual favors from would-be Scarlets. As Selznick supervises the "Burning of Atlanta" sequence, he is approached by his brother Myron, who is in the company of the perfect Scarlett O'Hara--Vivien Leigh (Morgan Brittany)." MissGoddess
Oh my goodness! I saw this "Movieola" thing once a long time ago on TV!! I remember thinking how pretty Morgan Brittney was in a Vivienish way. But I forgot Tony Curtis played Selznick, oh dear...talk about strange casting as you said....and Sharon Gless as Carole??? Oh well, lol.

edgeciff
Nice set. I already own two of the titles HOMICIDAL and STRAIGHT JACKET so I am undecided as to whether I will pass on this set. I am more interested in the two film noir sets that are coming around this time.

edgeciff
Yes, but with the retail price of $80.99 this is ridiculous! Amazon is listing it for $72, and Classicflix for $59.95 I'll take a pass. Bring on the 2 film noir volumes from Sony.
filmlover
It?s been mentioned here before about the special Blu-ray edition of *Sunrise* coming from Eureka in the UK (will play in all regions, apparently), but I don?t believe we have mentioned that they are also doing a Blu-ray release of *Black Shield of Falworth* starring Tony Curtis. While the former title will be extra-packed, I have heard of no extras for the latter, but the good thing is that they have said, ?THE BLACK SHIELD OF FALWORTH has come from a brand new telecine Universal made for us from a negative that was to them unknown (it looks great by the way!). So we're happy with the way that one is progressing.? The price for Black Shield is much cheaper that Sunrise, so it is likely not coming with extras. Both are up on Amazon UK and I?ve ordered them. Sunrise, by itself, from Amazon UK with shipping and exchange would be $30 (an excellent price considering the normal price is 24.98 pounds). Black Shield is listed at about 10 pounds at Amazon UK. I ordered both items and the total came to, with shipping, 28.93 pounds ($47.87). Both are scheduled to release September 21.
HollywoodGolightly
I don't recall hearing about this before - Columbia Home Video is releasing *The New Hollywood Box Set* on Oct. 20th. It will include *Drive, He Said*, *Five Easy Pieces*, *The King of Marvin Gardens*, *Last Picture Show*, *A Safe Place*, *Head* and *Easy Rider*. The one movie in that set that really jumped out at me was *Drive, He Said*, because it has never been available on home video in VHS or DVD. It was also Jack Nicholson's directorial debut. CelluloidKid
*Miracle on 34th Street Makes Its Blu-ray Wish on October 6th 2009* Source: Fox Home Video August 14th, 2009 Just in time for the holiday season, Fox Home Entertainment is *releasing both the classic 1947 and the updated 1994* editions of the hit Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street on Blu-ray this October 6th. Both films will be released separately on the same day, with a retail price of $34.99 SRP. , a bearded old gent who is the living image of Santa Claus. Serving as a last-minute replacement for the drunken Santa who was to have led Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Kringle is offered a job as a Macy's toy-department Santa. Supervisor Maureen O'Hara soon begins having second thoughts about hiring Kris: It's bad enough that he is laboring under the delusion that he's the genuine Saint Nick. But when he begins advising customers to shop elsewhere for toys that they can't find at Macy's, he's gone too far! Amazingly, Mr. Macy (Harry Antrim) considers Kris' shopping tips to be an excellent customer-service "gimmick," and insists that the old fellow keep his job. A resident of a Long Island retirement home, Kris agrees to take a room with lawyer John Payne during the Christmas season. It happens that Payne is sweet on O'Hara, and Kris subliminally hopes he can bring the two together. Kris is also desirous of winning over the divorced O'Hara's little daughter Natalie Wood, who in her few years on earth has lost a lot of the Christmas spirit. Complications ensue when Porter Hall, Macy's nasty in-house psychologist, arranges to have Kris locked up in Bellevue as a lunatic. Payne represents Kris at his sanity hearing, rocking the New York judicial system to its foundations by endeavoring to prove in court that Kris is, indeed, the real Santa Claus! We won't tell you how he does it: suffice to say that there's a joyous ending for Payne and O'Hara, as well as a wonderful faith-affirming denouement for little Natalie Wood. The remake brings the same story into the 1990s. Special Features: - Audio commentary by Maureen O'Hara (1947) - AMC Back Story: Miracle On 34th Street (1947) - Movietone News: Hollywood Spotlight (1947) - Promotional Spot (1947) - Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Floating in History - Poster Gallery (1947)
