FrankGrimes
Bring it on! Sony/Columbia has emerged as the only studio willing to produce new classic film box sets. I'm thoroughly impressed. They will be getting my money with their film noir and Rita sets. Here's hoping Human Desire shows up soon.

HollywoodGolightly
In the UK, Eureka Entertainment has announced the release of a box set with Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse films; it may be of interest to Lang fans since this is perhaps the only way to get them all in a single boxed set. The three movies included were released in the U.S. by different distributors - Kino Video, Criterion and Image Entertainment - and one of them is already OOP. *The Complete Fritz Lang Mabuse Boxset (MOC) in October (R2 DVD)* Eureka Entertainment have announced the UK DVD release of *The Complete Fritz Lang Mabuse Boxset* as part of their Masters of Cinema Series on 19th October 2009 priced at ?49.99. From the early stages of his career across five decades to his final film, Fritz Lang built a trilogy of paranoiac thrillers focused on an entity who began as a criminal mastermind, and progressed into something more amorphous: fear itself, embodied only by a name ? Dr. Mabuse. For the first time on home video, all three of Fritz Lang?s Mabuse films have been collected for one package, in their complete and restored forms. 1: *Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler*. (Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler, 1922) ? Lang?s two-part, nearly 5-hour silent epic detailing the rise and fall of Dr. Mabuse in Weimar-era Berlin. 2: *Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse* (The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, 1933) ? a thriller rife with supernatural elements, all converging around an attempt by the now-institutionalised Mabuse (or someone acting under his name?and possibly his will) to organise an ?Empire of Crime?. 3: *Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse* (The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Mabuse, 1960) ? Fritz Lang?s final film, in which hypnosis, clairvoyance, surveillance, and machine-guns come together for a whiplash climax that answers the question: Who?s channelling Mabuse?s methods in the Cold War era? A four-disc set, features include: * Original German-language intertitles for *Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler* along with newly translated English-language subtitles for each film * Newly recorded feature-length audio commentaries on all three movies by film-scholar and Fritz Lang expert David Kalat * Three video-featurettes totalling an hour-and-a-half in length on: the score of *Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler*; the creation of Norbert Jacques? ?Mabuse? character; and the motifs running throughout the works * 2002 video interview with Wolfgang Preiss, the star of *Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse* * An alternate ending to *Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse* taken from the French print of the film * Optional English-language dub track for *Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse* * 3 lengthy booklets containing a new translation of Fritz Lang?s 1924 lecture on ?Sensation Culture?; an essay by critic and scholar Michel Chion on the use of sound in *Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse*; new writing on *Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse* by critic David Cairns; extracts from period interviews with Fritz Lang; an abundance of production stills, illustrations, and marketing collateral ? and more! The press release also notes that ?All three films appear in their complete and restored forms, refreshed and improved from previous Eureka releases of the first two films. *Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse* is released here for the first time ever on home video in the UK.? filmlover
LOL, since it is the UK and it is DVD it would be PAL, shouldn't you say it will be region locked?
HollywoodGolightly
But of course. It's always a good idea to mention that imports may require a multi-region player.
HollywoodGolightly
Just thought I'd mention that I just read on blu-ray.com, there's rumors that the Jurassic Park and Back to the Future trilogies might finally be out on blu-ray late in 2010. I'd hoped at least BTTF might be out a bit sooner than that, but guess it's better late than never.

HollywoodGolightly
Thought this was interesting... Although their output isn't what it was in years past, Universal is slowly getting back into the good graces of classic film fans with every release of their Universal Backlot Series. Now, it appears that classic T.V. fans have more reason to support Universal as they've announced a November 24th release date for *Alfred Hitchcock Presents - Season 4*. Having seemingly abandoned *Alfred Hitchcock Presents*, this release will mark Universal's first classic T.V. release in two years when Season 3 of *Alfred Hitchcock Presents* was released. As always, great guest stars are expected. A bonus featurette is also included: Fasten Your Seatbelt: The Thrilling Art of Alfred Hitchcock. filmlover
from classicflix.com: Released last year by Kino in a 2-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition, Buster Keaton's masterpiece *The General* is now set for a November 10th release date for its Blu-Ray debut. And if the spectacluar restoration on the U.C.E. done by Kino is any indication, the upcoming Blu release should be just as stunning. It is expected to be a single disc release and it will carry over all the bonus features on the U.C.E. with no new ones anticipated. http://www.classicflix.com/general-bluray-p-9138.html
HollywoodGolightly
There have been barely any silent films released in blu-ray so far, and Kino's announcement is definitely welcome news. Now if only WHV could get at least a handful of silents out on blu-ray....

edgeciff
Titles like these don't interest me since I spend lots on DVD's and am trying to be very, very selective with Blu Ray, especially since the prices are about $10.00 higher. I don't expect my BR collection with grow as fast as my SD collection has done.
