Film_Fatale
I'm very glad Criterion is also releasing Gregory Nava's *El Norte* next January, it's one of the best foreign-language movies of the 80's and yet had amazingly not been released on DVD up to now. I highly recommend it.
filmlover
I believe we've previously mentioned *Being There* is coming on Blu from Warner on February 3. edgeciff
WOW, as a bonus the 2 disc MAGNIFICENT OBESSION will contain the 1935 John Stahl version which starred Irene Dunne and Robert Taylor: The Criterion disc will offer a newly restored HD digital transfer; audio commentary and rare 80 minute documentary from 1991 in which Sirk talks about his career. Another winner from Criterion. .
Film_Fatale
Sounds like another terrific Criterion release. By the way, I was just reading on digitalbits.com that: *City Lights Entertainment will finally bring its new Kiss of the Spider Woman: Special Collector's Edition to stores on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 10/21. Previously, both versions had been Amazon.com exclusive releases (starting in June). After next Tuesday, you'll now find them widely available.* Also, did anyone already mention *Brainstorm* as another upcoming WHV release, together with the Natalie Wood set? filmlover
While KOTSW is a good movie, the picture quality for the Blu was pretty poor. Not recommended.
filmlover
Lion's Gate has postponed *Ulysses* (1954). No reason given.
Film_Fatale
Generally speaking, though, wouldn't a Blu-Ray with a less than stellar video transfer still look better than the same movie on a conventional DVD?
filmlover
One would think but even if it is slightly better, this one is a definite pass. Rent it from Netflix, Blu or DVD, and form your own opinion.
filmlover
On Feb. 10th, WB will issue *Ode to Billy Joe* on DVD. It's hard to believe the movie came out more than 30 years ago!

Still I enjoyed the movie! B-)

Film_Fatale
More details on the *Amadeus* Blu-Ray that is coming in February 2009. B-) *'Amadeus' to Get Blu-ray DigiBook Release this February* After almost a year of anticipation, Warner has officially set an early-February Blu-ray debut for the Oscar-winning classic 'Amadeus.' Starring Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham, the critically-acclaimed, Milos Forman-directed musical biopic was originally expected to receive a Blu-ray release in 2008. Warner has at last confirmed a street date for the 1984 Best Picture winner, which will get the DigiBook treatment on February 10. Tech specs will see the 180-minute Director's Cut version of the film spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc in 1080p/VC-1 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras include an audio commentary with Foreman, as well as "The Making of 'Amadeus'" documentary. Also in the Blu-ray set will be a bonus CD sampler with ten musical selections from the film, and a Digital Copy of the Director's Cut (in SD). Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $34.95.
filmlover
I'll be kind and won't say that I mentioned on Oct. 2nd that Amadeus was coming, especially since you added details on the extras.

Film_Fatale
I don't believe I've seen this mentioned before in this thread: dvdbeaver.com has announced a Blu-Ray release of *Quo Vadis?* that will be available in Asia, but will be a "Region A" release and is apparently being released by Warner Home Video. This one is available form yesasia.com: http://www.yesasia.com/global/1012207964-0-0-0-en/info.html
filmlover
For shame, ff, you know with a classic title like *Quo Vadis* that I would be all over it. I think the first time I mentioned it was after coming back from the Blu-ray panel at the San Diego Comic Con in July. And I posted a look at the cover for the regular version around the same time. On August 20, I posted this: Here's something for speculation...This is a foreign listing for a special edition DVD boxset, it looks like, of Quo Vadis. Could those pictures and books be part of the American package, too? There is also a picture of the Blu-ray case but I can guess, based on experience, it won't have any of these boxset extras: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=60888 And on Sept. 5th: A nice full-page ad in the most recent issue of Home Media Magazine for Quo Vadis: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/questex/hom735717CBB/#/
Film_Fatale
Right, but the info on where you can order it from is new, isn't it? B-)
filmlover
I know you are kidding (to save face, lol)...but it does bring up something I think is worth mentioning with regards to all of us with regards to posting. In the special sales thread, we have to mention different sellers for sales, of course, but when it is an upcoming release, I don't list sellers (when I print info about new releases from classicflix.com, for example, I eliminate their "and you can pre-order it from us for $13.98" sort of thing from the details about the DVD.)
Film_Fatale
Well I agree generally that there's no point in mentioning individual sellers for most releases, but don't you think an exception can be made (yes, even in Upcoming Releases) for exclusive releases or things that are not easy to get from American retailers? For example, *Kiss of the Spider Woman* was issued as an amazon exclusive several months before being made available more widely. And the Asian release of *Quo Vadis? might not be easy to find for a lot of people who might be interested (or who just want to find out how much an import Blu-Ray disc would cost, with shipping included). But, rest assured, I will continue to avoid mentioning individual websites in nearly all cases (with the only possible exceptions as in the abovementioned special cases). MissGoddess
Confirming the mention a few pages earlier about *Man Hunt,* I received this from ClassicFlix: According to Foxclassics.com, some much anticipated films are coming soon to DVD including Elia Kazan's heart-wrenching drama A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945). Also expected is the Fritz Lang thriller Man Hunt (1941) and the bio-pic Stars and Stripes Forever (1952). Also listed are two titles already released on DVD, so the new versions will probably be either upgrades or special editions. They are The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) and The Robe (1953). Release dates are not specified so stay tuned...
filmlover
I sure hope they redo The Robe. I got it just a few months ago and the picture quality was pretty poor.
