Film_Fatale
This probably won't be of interest except for animation fans, but WHV is releasing the first "authorized" version of the Max Fleischer "Superman" cartoons next April: More info here: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/classic/fleischer-superman-on-dvd.html Also, I skimmed through Barrie Maxwell's latest classic coming attractions column at digitalbits.com; didn't see much there that hasn't been mentioned this before, except perhaps for this rumour: There are some rumours surfacing that MGM will release the complete director's cut of John Wayne's The Alamo (as previously available only on the special edition laserdisc) by mid-2009. This would be a delightful release for the film's devoted fans, so let's hope there's some truth to it, especially if a Blu-ray version is also in the works. filmlover
WB issued all the cartoons before in the Superman Ultimate Collector's Collection a few years back. This will be the first time WB have issued them as a separate package, however.

Film_Fatale
I don't believe I'm familiar with any of those titles, but I'm looking forward to the new volume very much! Hopefully, they'll also play a few of those titles on TCM. To filmlover & everyone else, I've created a new group for the discussion of classic releases on DVD & blu-ray as part of the new TCM fans Social Network. LsDoorMat
That Forbidden Hollywood Volume 3 is great news. Congrats to WHV for digging up some lesser known titles. I've seen all of these and they're quite good and diverse titles. I'm looking forward to the commentaries and the documentaries. Other Men's Women is a very early talkie with James Cagney and Joan Blondell in very small roles. It's definitely not your typical pre-code, and the male lead, Grant Withers, didn't have starring roles very long before he slipped to supporting player. Heroes for Sale and Wild Boys of the Road are more about the Great Depression and its impact. Good films directed by William Wellman. Frisco Jenny/Midnight Mary/The Purchase Price are more typical pre-codes, if there really is such a thing.

MovieFanLaura
This set is fabulous news! I'm especially excited about the Vance-Maietta commentary on my pre-Code fave MIDNIGHT MARY, as I liked their work on the Vol. 2 set.

Film_Fatale
I know the upcoming re-issue of *Mary Poppins* in a 45th anniversary presentation has already been mentioned - as well as the fact that there's no blu-ray release announced so far. However I don't recall having seen the cover art so far, so here it is:
filmlover
Though it is unsubstantiated, I was just reading some insider threads and there is a strong rumor that the Blu-ray edition of *Mary Poppins* will come out in 2009.

Film_Fatale
Great news for fans of MGM musicals with blu-ray players! Warner Home Video have announced the US Blu-ray Disc release of *Gigi* and *An American in Paris* on 31st March 2009. Priced at $28.99 SRP each, the Blu-ray Disc versions of these Best Picture Oscar-winning 1950s classics follow the 2-Disc Special Edition DVDs that were released back in September 2008. Lovingly restored and remastered for the DVD releases, the Blu-ray editions benefit from the same restorations and will feature the same bonus content. *An American in Paris* - Originally photographed in Technicolor, is the latest recipient of Warner Bros.? proprietary Ultra-Resolution process, which takes the original Technicolor negatives and meticulously combines them to yield a stunning picture with sharpness and depth of field never seen before. *Gigi* was produced after the demise of the original Technicolor system, photographed in the industry-standardized Eastmancolor process. For this new DVD release, Gigi has been photo-chemically restored from its original camera negative and safety separations to produce a much sharper and colorful image than has been seen in decades. It also contains a 5.1 audio mix created from the original multi-track source elements. http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content/id/69736/gigi-and-an-american-in-paris-us-bd-in-march.html

That's excellent news. The Making of Gigi - The story of how 1958's Best Picture winner (the last of the classic MGM musicals) survived a turbulent production that included censorship battles over its daring sexual content and creative struggles between a studio in turmoil and a demanding, visionary director. Featuring an all-new interview with star Leslie Caron, and a rare interview with Oscar-winning director Minnelli Original 1949 Nonmusical version of Gigi starring Daniele Delorme in the title role and directed by Jacqueline Audry (in French Mono with English subtitles) For *An American in Paris*, extras include: Concerto of a Commentary hosted by Patricia Ward Kelly and featuring rare, often previously unheard interviews with Gene Kelly, Vincente Minnelli, Arthur Freed, Alan Jay Lerner, Johnny Green, Saul Chaplin, Michael Feinstein, Preston Ames and Irene Sharaff and new observations by Leslie Caron and Nina Foch 1938 MGM short: Paris on Parade 1951 MGM cartoon: Symphony in Slang Theatrical trailer 2002 American Masters Documentary: Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer ?S Wonderful: The Making of An American in Paris, an all new documentary, produced especially for this release. Film_Fatale
I just caught this bit in digitalbits.com (no pun intended!) In news around the Net today, the excellent SciFi Japan website has a good piece up on the recent HD restoration of all 28 Godzilla films by Toho studios. Sources are telling us that we're likely to see the films begin appearing on Blu-ray Disc later in 2009. I did a forum search for *Godzilla* items in the DVD forums, but didn't come up with anything, so I take it nobody had mentioned this before.
