iowahawkeye
This is what i've been saying all along -- the only movies that need the standard dvd release are the ones that have NEVER been released on dvd before. Everything else should be on Blu-Ray from this point forward. My feeling is that when studios double, triple, and quadruple dip, they are pursuing a certain niche market -- the older consumer who probably won't upgrade to Blu Ray now, or anytime soon. It was quite surprising to read on digital bits that the Touch Of Evil double (or triple) dip was name the best standard dvd release of 2008 -- i honestly thought all of the Universal dvds released around that same time last year (including Hitchcock) all should've been released on Blu Ray instead of SD. iowahawkeye
From what i've read on several sites (including probably this one) is that Paramount & Univeral are much more concerned with their TV product, as they tend to make more money on those. The return isn't as high with all the work that has to go into restoring old classics. I would absolutely LOVE to see some Neil Simon stuff that is long overdue on dvd, maybe not as high priority as The African Queen mind you, but to see some Neil Simon stuff, like Chapter Two or Only When I Laugh. The latter was released on VHS as late as 1994, so i'm hoping they'll now get around to dvd, now some 15 years later! Marsha Mason was quite the actress in the 70's, and she needs to be better represented than what she is currently on dvd.

Film_Fatale
Frears' *The Hit* is a pretty good movie. I'm glad it is receiving the Criterion treatment.
filmlover
In addition to the Bonds mentioned below, MGM is going to issue on Blu-ray *Never Say Never Again*, the remake of Thunderball, starring Sean Connery on March 24th. I don't know if I will pick this title up since I thought it was a pretty poor film. There will also be a DVD rerelease of NSNA the same day. Film_Fatale
I would never argue that *Never Say Never Again* is one of the best Bond movies ever. However there is some unique appeal for those of us who'd missed Sean Connery after he left the "official" series. Incidentally, here is the cover art for the blu-ray version:

iowahawkeye
I think it's fantastic that Universal found a way to make this happen, to at least honor their old movies, even if it's only on an annual basis! I will buy this set, just to support their efforts. This is the best movie news i've read in a long time!
filmlover
I think they are using the same Forbidden Film featurette/doc on both, and probably others if they release them.
mateo107
oh, well, it's still wonderful to see Universal 1) releasing films they haven't already released one or two times before, and 2) releasing a set with extra features. i think this is the best news this year so far. edgeciff
FOUND THIS ONLINE: "Launched in 2005, Digital Classics DVD is DCD Media's in-house label releasing arts and music programmes on DVD in the UK and worldwide." Not sure if this is the same company. These are films from the WB library and it seems odd that they would license them out to another company. In any case I have no interest in any of these films at all.
mateo107
it sounds like that would be a UK release. at one point, Green Mansions was TCM's top most requested film Not-On-Home Video, although now it ranks at #5. I'm curious to see Audrey Hepburn as Rima the Jungle Girl, so i hope it comes out in the US. if not, I can wait till it airs in April i suppose.
