All Day Entertainment has postponed (read that as cancelled) the release of *Becoming Charley Chase*:

Becoming Charley Chase which had been set for release this coming Tuesday has been indefinitely postponed. Speaking directly with David Kalat of All Day Entertainment, he cited lackluster sales in All Day's recent silent releases as the reason for not moving forward at this time.

At least Universal is making some effort at releasing some of their classic films, even though *"Cleopatra"* was released as part of The Cecil B. DeMille set about 2 years ago. Hopefully they can get some more of their classic films out onto DVD in their near future. At the moment I'm just happy that they got one of Fredric March's films out, which I'm really interested in seeing.

*Dr. Strangelove Comes to Blu-ray on June 16th, 2009!*

A Stanley Kubrick classic is getting the anniversary treatment. Dr. Strangelove will be released on Blu-ray in a new _45th Anniversary Special Edition_ on June 16. We don't have any cover art or full special features details as of yet, but the disc will be priced at approximately $39. We'll surely keep you updated on any developments with this new BD disc. The film stars Peter Sellers and Sterling Hayden.

Stanley Kubrick's black comedy classic about an "accidental" nuclear attack received four Oscar nominations (including Best Picture, 1964). Convinced the Commies want to pollute America's "precious bodily fluids," a crazed general (Sterling Hayden) orders a nuclear air strike on the U.S.S.R. As his aide, Captain Mandrake (Peter Sellers), scrambles to unlock a recall code to prevent the bombing, the U.S. President (Sellers again) calls a drunken Soviet Premier on the hotline claiming the proposed attack is all a silly mistake, while the President's advisor (an ex-Nazi scientist) Dr. Strangelove (Sellers once more) verifies the existence of a dreaded Doomsday Machine - a retaliatory device designed by the Soviets to end the human race once and for all!

*_Special Features_:* (More special features to be announced later)

- Documentary: "No Fighting in the War Room"

- Featurette: "Best Sellers or: Peter Sellers and Dr. Strangelove"

- Interview with former Defense secretary Robert McNamara

- "The Cold Facts" - a bonus track that offers trivia and background information on the Cold War, plus interviews with experts and analysts (including Daniel Ellsberg and former counter-terrorism chief Richard A. Clarke)

The film that was such a great tribute to film noir, *Sin City*, is finally getting an American Blu-ray release through Buena Vista (Disney) on April 21 and it looks spectacular. The Canadian 1-disc release only had the movie, no extras, but Disney being Disney, this American version is packed to the rafters with stuff.

from a thread in blu-ray.com (original info from The HDRoom.com):

...the original theatrical cut and extended unrated recut version (will be) in the same package.

Each version will be pressed onto a separate disc flanked by a total of over 8 hours of bonus features. Disc one will include the theatrical cut; the first of two new Blu-ray exclusive features, Cine-Explore; two audio commentaries and an audio track from Austin premiere.

Disc two will include the recut version; Kill 'Em Good Interactive Comic Book that retells Marv's story with you in the driver's seat; four featurettes; interviews with Quentin Tarantino and Frank Miller; Robert Rodriguez special features and "much more" which are likely comprised of extras from the last DVD edition.

On the tech specs front, Dimension is blessing Sin City with 1.85:1 1080p video, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and D-BOX Motion Code on the disc.

Here is the link and it also shows the cover art:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=83883

Price will be $35.99 but that means it will be selling on Amazon and the like for about $23 or $24. This will be a day one buy for me.

The Canadian release of Sin City was done by Alliance, a strictly Canadian releasing company that had the distribution rights to the movie there, I believe. It came out a few months ago. Not sure how long their licensing agreement is for but it could be up now because I can't imagine Buena Vista/Disney passing up selling to Canada, too. The version Alliance issued was just a bare bones release. I knew it was wise to wait for an American release.

Here's some news that I think MissGoddess will like:

Just thought I'd go ahead and mention this - Variety is giving a less-than-enthusiastic review to the 45th Anniversary Edition DVD of *Mary Poppins*, mostly because it has almost exactly the same extras as the 40th Anniversary edition, except for some new infomercial material for the Disney on Broadway adaptation:

A rumor is circulating the internet that the first three films in the Indiana Jones series will be coming to Blu-ray towards Christmas. Apparently, there was a slide show from LucasFilm that was presenting news of a new Indy Lego film, and then a slide of the *Indiana Jones Trilogy* on Blu. The slides were apparently available online but now only the Lego remains.

Also on the rumored (but more likely) release front for Blu are *Big, There's Something About Mary, Grease, The Princess Bride,* and *Saturday Night Fever*.

Upcoming Releases...where the news items appear while they are still fresh, not several days old recycled items appearing elsewhere like Monday bread rolls finally showing up at a bad grocery store on Friday. Such as the news about the *Pre-Code Hollywood Collection - Universal Backlot Series*, described here in this thread on January 21st ( http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=88225&start=15&tstart=0 ), but not mentioned until today in another thread in this forum (lol, and both using the same source).

Disney is recycling a series of their shorter films, each on separate DVDs. Called the Disney Animation Collection, vol. 1 is Mickey and the Beanstalk (from the feature Fun and Fancy Free), vol. 2 is The Three Little Pigs, and vol. 3 is Mickey Mouse as The Prince and the Pauper. Release date is April 7th, but the price is $19.99 for each DVD. One suspects there will be other shorts on the DVDs to fill out the space.

A major bit of bad news. dvdbeaver.com is reporting that the new Blu release of Brief Encounter starring Trebord Howard and Celia Johnson, and directed by David Lean, is region-B locked, so won't play on any normal North American Blu players (which are region A). Unfortunately for me because I have this already coming from the UK, as it is one of my favorite films. This is a shame since the title will likely never see a U.S. issued release.

I wouldn't be so sure. Criterion owns U.S. rights and they might decide to issue it on blu-ray. I'm sure it's among the more popular Criterion titles.
