*Warner Outlines 'Batman Anthology' Blu-ray Specs*

Warner has unleashed the full details of its 'Batman' anthology Blu-ray box set, which arrives this May with five discs and multiple hours of bonus features.

As previously reported, Warner announced a March 10 street date for 'Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology,' the five-disc set contains all four of the Batman films made from 1989-1997, including 'Batman,' 'Batman Returns,' 'Batman Forever' and 'Batman & Robin.'

The studio has now confirmed final specs, which will see each film receive its own BD-50 dual-layer presentation, with 1080p/VC-1 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras are extensive and match the previous DVD release of the 'Anthology.' Consistent among each film is an audio commentary with its respective director, documentary galleries, character profiles, and theatrical trailers. Also spread across all four films in the set is the multi-part "Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight" documentary.

Also included on 'Batman' is the featurette "On the set with Bob Kane," a cut storyboard sequence, and three music videos from Prince.

'Batman Returns' boasts an additional featurette ("The Bat, The Cat and the Penguin"), and a Siouxie and the Banshees music video.

'Batman Forever' features additional cut footage (presented as an extra) and a music video.

Finally, 'Batman & Robin' also includes additional footage as an extra, and four music videos.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $129.95.

Convenient, indeed.

There's a small update at digitalbits.com:

Some quick announcement news: MGM has just revealed four new catalog Blu-ray Disc titles for release in May (distributed by Fox): *Fargo, Force 10 from Navarone* and *The Good The Bad and The Ugly* will all street on 5/12, followed by *Lions for Lambs* on 5/19. Additional details will follow.

Also, Warner has just announced the *Tom & Jerry: Chuck Jones Collection* for release on DVD. Due on 6/23 (SRP $26.99), the 2-disc set will include 34 classic animated shorts as well as the Tom and Jerry... and Chuck and Chuck Jones: Memories of a Childhood featurettes.

Of these titles, I'm really looking forward to *The Good the Bad and the Ugly*, and may consider renting *Force 10 From Navarone*.

Being a sci fi horror lover, I have been waiting forever for movies like Island of Lost Souls, The Green Slime, Night of the Creeps, Trilogy of Terror Part 2 , It Conquered the World, etc to wind up on DVD and there is nothing of the sort coming out. Looks like a slow year.

At least a Hercules set is coming, and the pre-code stuff should be good

Flicker Alley has announced there were some sets of *Douglas Fairbanks: A Modern Musketeer* that have problems:

It has come to our attention that there is a replication error with a batch of discs manufactured as part of our recent release of 'Douglas Fairbanks: A Modern Musketeer'. These discs fail to load properly and, depending on your player, will either be ejected or cause an error message.

If your set is affected by this issue, we are offering a disc replacement program. More information can be found on our homepage at www.flickeralley.com or via this direct link: http://www.flickeralley.com/fa_db_discreplace.html

For those into horror here are a couple of tidbits

Toward the later part of 2009 *Zombie Nightmare* with Adam West and John Mikl Thor will be coming on DVD from Code Red. I usually do not cut and past but there are articles if you Google search. This movie isnt the best Zombie movie, but it has a pretty good following and was an MST3K experiement.

On May 19th (this may have been reported already) *Nightmare Castle* uncut & in hidef is coming to DVD from Severin Films. This is a heavy gothic and atmospheric movie with Barabara Steele.

I was just looking at the latest weekly ads for Best Buy. They will be offering an exclusive "Pinocchio 3-D Cup" to those buying *Pinocchio* (either version, apparently). The price for the blu-ray seems to be a couple bucks more than amazon's, so I don't know whether the 3-D cup is worth $2. :P

*THIS IS THE BEST NEWS YET FOR A DVD RELEASE...*

*I'm a huge Peter Bogdanovich fan (I met the man a few years back when he was the Denver Film Fest to do a Q/A about his film The Last Picture Show.).... I'm very excited to see that the "Martini Movies" will "Finally put _Nickelodeon_ (1976) onto DVD 04/21/09 after all these years! I couldn't even find a VHS copy when I looked for it!*

Nice that the film will be packaged W./Peter's other great film ....The Last Picture Show (1971)!!

*Peter Bogdanovich's NICKELODEON (1976) Comes To DVD!*

Peter Bogdanovich had one of the great filmmaking runs of the 1970?s.

From LAST PICTURE SHOW in 1971, to WHAT?S UP DOC?, PAPER MOON, DAISY MILLER, AT LONG LAST LOVE, NICKELODEON and SAINT JACK, they were all very interesting, if not all entirely successful films.

*Of those films, the musical AT LONG LAST LOVE and 1976?s NICKELODEON have been MIA on any form of video. While they have turned up on cable (and both are better than the rumors would have you believe), they have been difficult to see.*

Seeing _Nickelodeon_ (1976) will now be easier.

_Nickelodeon_ (1976) was loosely based on the career of Cecil B. DeMille.!

On April 21, 2009 Sony will release a double feature DVD of both the previously available LAST PICTURE SHOW as well as NICKELODEON. The DVD will include both the color and black and white director?s cuts of NICKELODEON. Peter Bogdanovich will have a new audio commentary on both films.

NICKELODEON was Bogdanovich?s tribute to silent filmmakers, starring Burt Reynolds, Ryan and Tatum O?Neal, John Ritter and Brian Keith. It has been at least 15 years since I last saw it, but I remember liking it quite a bit.

The DVD will be only $24.95 for both. Quite a deal.

Thanks.

talkingmoviezzz.
