Did anyone sleep? All these questions and more will be answered here as we explore how Woodstock was captured on film. Synchronization: How do you sync all this material with out any slates? No slate, no problem. With the help of an upright Moviola, Dale Bell, Michael Wadleigh, Eddie Kramer and the editors were able to make magic from miles of tape and film. We'll hear stories about the number of people and how they all coexisted for three days with only minor incidents. No Rain! No Rain!: Everyone talks about the rain at this event as if it were a character. It was. It set the tone, provided moments of danger, fun and disgust. 3 Days in a Truck: Eddie Kramer heard some of the most amazing performances as he recorded this historic event. But during those three days of peace, love and music, he didn't get to see any performances because he was stuck in a truck. Zoetrope
From digitalbits.com: Yeah, remember how we said the 1:45 PM post was going to be our last for the week? Not so much. But there's a good reason we came back with one last post today: Amazon.com has just revealed at least the preliminary box art for Warner's forthcoming Gone with the Wind: Ultimate Collector's Edition and Wizard of Oz: Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray Disc box sets. And the surprise is that the retailer is already taking pre-orders for both of them, with each priced at an $84.99 SRP but selling for $59.49 on Amazon. Street dates and other specs and details are still TBA, but our sources tell us that Wizard of Oz will street in late October, with Gone with the Wind following in early December. Here's what the early packaging looks like (obviously, it's subject to change)...

No solid dates or prices, but Zane Grey Theater (Season 1) and The Green Hornet (1940 - Serial) have been expected for some time so they will probably release first. Also expected, probably mid to late summer, are two other serials, The Green Hornet Strikes Again! (1941) with Warren Hull and The Last of the Mohicans (1932) with Harry Carey. filmlover
The other day I received an email that Warner Bros had reopened/opened an online store, but I also just noticed an article in Home Media Magazine that WB is starting to offer things from their library not yet on DVD (or possibly not outside of box sets) directly to the consumer. Accoriding to WB, you can buy them on DVD and have them shipped to you for around $19.95 or approximately $14.95 electronically. Here are highlights from the article (and it looks like it is to start March 23) http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/questex/hom547114RED/index.php#/4 : "Dubbed the 'Warner Archive Collection,' consumers can visit www.warnerarchive.com to browse title selections... Movies earmarked for physical delivery are replicated via a third-party service (believed to be be Hewlett-Packard's MOD [manufacturing on demand] service), packaged in an Amaray case with custom artwork, shrink-wrapped and shipped. Among the initial 150 movie selections, which also feature MGM and RKO titles, are Oscar nominees Sunrise at Campobello...The Citadel...Mr. Lucky...Possessed...Once Upon a Honeymoon...and All Fall Down... All titles have been digitally remastered and include the original theatrical trailer... George Feltenstein, SVP of catalog titles for WHV, said the two-and-a-half year project represented an expedited means to bring to market Warner's library of 6,800 films, of which only 1,200 have been released on DVD and 4,100 on VHS. ...Feltenstein said heretofore only titles with projected sales from 15,000 and 20,000 unites warranted a DVD production run. He said MOD removed those restrictions..." I've taken a look at the site (http://www.wbshop.com/Warner-Archive/ARCHIVE,default,sc.html) and saw they had a number of titles for sale right now. (And you can also vote on a few others for future inclusion.) Some of the titles offered include Abe Lincoln in Illinois, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn The Beast of the City Cain and Mabel Chained Dance, Fools, Dance The D.I. Idiot's Delight Love Rasputin and the Empress Scaramouche (1923) Strange Interlude By going into individual titles, you can video preview the quality. http://www.wbshop.com/Warner-Archive/ARCHIVE,default,sc.html?prefn1=format&prefv1=Warner%20Archive&psortb1=name-sort&psortd1=1&sz=150 (It seems to take awhile to show all 150 titles)
edgeciff
Sounds like a great idea. There are several titles I would be interested in including; BHOWANI JUNCTION ICE FOLLIES OF 1939 INTERRUPTED MELODY INVITATION MR. LUCKY PAINTING THE CLOUDS SO THIS IS LOVE 3 SAILORS AND A GIRL I don' t really see any MGM musicals such as I LOVE MELVIN, MEET ME IN LAS VEGAS, etc. So maybe these titles will get a regular official release. I am sure George Feltenstein will talk about this on the Warner chat on 3/23. Also, there goes more bucks I am going to spend on DVD's.
filmlover
I think this could be quite good to get DVDs that wouldn't normally come out due to limiited requests. I think the thing to do is order a film or two to check out the quality. I only hope they end up dropping the $19.95 price to something a bit more reasonable.
edgeciff
There are 5 titles I want from the list. It looks like shipping is free with a bigger order but there is sales tax. Knowing WBHV I am sure the quality of the discs is fine. They probably are only bare bones with the trailer being the extra. This is a very good way of bringing these titles to the public. I have my doubts that the price will drop of these discs. The site mentioned 20% but I am not sure if it includes these discs since the discount did not show up. filmlover
I got an email from WB about the shop and it said that you get $5 off on any order over $50 if you use the code WATCH. edgeciff
Using code XB392 will net you an additional 25% off 5 items. I intend to order 5 titles for now: BHOWANI JUNCTION INTERRUPTED MELODY ON BORROWED TIME MR. LUCKY SO THIS IS LOVE It seems like I am wrong and all the other titles are now available. There are several other titles I might purchase down the road.
MissGoddess
I took the plunge and ordered **** TONK. I tried to "preview" but for some reason it wouldn't play. I didn't see any discount, but the shipping was free even on just a single item. I will see how it looks and plays when it arrives and if I'm happy with it, I'll see about ordering more, especially if there really are discounts. Do any of you recommend I sign up for their newsletter---I would only be interested in learning about sales or promotions related to these items. I didn't want to sign up only to receive a lot of notices about modern films on DVD.
edgeciff
Couldn't hurt to sign up. I have two different e-mail addresses so I put my address on the e-mail which gets the junk just in case. When ordering there is a box at the bottom to tell you to put in promo code. To get the 25% off I was told you would need to order five DVD's. Hopefully there will be more promos on these DVD's that is why I signed up for e-mails.
