filmlover
Boy, talk about confusing, this takes the cake. Previously mentioned here was that Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is coming out on Blu-ray seven weeks before the DVD will be. Okay, that is clear enough...but now read the latest news from Disney: In an early announcement to retailers, Walt Disney Home Entertainment has revealed that they will provide fans with multiple options for the upcoming Platinum Edition Blu-ray release of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', which is due to hit store shelves on October 6th, seven weeks before the DVD release. The standard Blu-ray release features Blu-ray packaging, and features the Witch holding the poisoned apple. There will also be a 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (DVD Packaging) which will have the same discs, but in a DVD case featuring Snow White on the cover. This version is obviously to appease DVD fans who don't want to adapt to the new, smaller form of Blu-ray disc cases. For collectors, there will be three options. The first, and least expensive at an MSRP of $60, is the 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Collectors Book Set)' which will feature a book along with the Blu-ray release. The second is 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Dwarf Plush Gift Set)' at an MSRP of $80. This set will feature the Blu-ray release along with a collectible plush of one of the dwarfs. And finally, at a MSRP of $250, is the 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Limited Edition Collector's Set)'. While final details about what will be included in that set are yet to be finalized, you can expect some extra special. All five releases will features the film on both Blu-ray and DVD so that it can be watched in your home theater and on the go in your car without having to buy to separate releases. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=2597

HollywoodGolightly
Just read the new Barrie Maxwell column over at digitalbits.com - there doesn't seem to be a lot in the way of new announcements, except perhaps for this, which I don't remember reading in this thread: Also due out on the same date is *The Strange One* (1957) which features the film debuts of Ben Gazzara and George Peppard. Sony?s previously-rumoured Columbia film noir set is now reportedly set to include *Five Against the House* (1955), *The Lineup* (1958), *Murder by Contract* (1958), *The Sniper* (1952), and *The Big Heat* (1953) ? a fine selection although *The Big Heat* doesn?t really need a re-release. *Human Desire* (1954, also with Glenn Ford and Gloria Grahame) would have been a more welcome inclusion. No release timing is yet available. Also in the works is a Samuel Fuller Collection that would include *The Crimson Kimono*, *Underworld USA* and *Scandal Sheet* (the latter based on a Fuller novel). HollywoodGolightly
I like the "digibook" packaging and hope it'll start catching on, at least with classic titles. One thing that is still not clear to me is in which aspect ratio this movie is being presented. I followed the link for highdefdigest but didn't see anything about that. I just read an entry in the High-Def Digest, dated today, that says it will contain _both_ versions, as well as a new audio commentary "by Godzilla experts Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski". http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Classic_Media/Disc_Announcements/Godzilla_to_Destroy_Blu-ray_this_September/2784 *Classic Media says the film has been newly remastered, and will include both the original Japanese version as well as the butchered domestic version (which features an inserted Raymond Burr, amongst other comical changes)*
