HollywoodGolightly
From blu-ray.com: Severin Films, the self-proclaimed 'Criterion of Smut', is soon entering the Blu-ray arena. True to form, the studio has announced two war movies for July 28: 'Eagles Over London' and the macaroni-combat classic 'The Inglorious Bastards', which will be followed in August 25 by the 1980s high-school sex comedy 'Screwballs'. No information on specs has been released, but both 'The Inglorious Bastards' and 'Eagles Over London' will include all-new interviews with Quentin Tarantino and Enzo Castellari. And some bad news from classicflix: Our original source regarding The African Queen was wrong and it is not on the schedule for this October. Our studio source also cannot confirm its impending release. Sorry for the hub bub.
HollywoodGolightly
I just posted this on the Westerns forum, and wasn't sure if the forum was going to let me post it here, as well... Warner Home Video has just announced it will release a fully restored version of John Ford's Wagon Master on DVD on Sept. 15. It will include an audio commentary by Harry Carey, Jr. and Peter Bogdanovich _with_ John Ford! The SRP is $19.97, so I'm sure most online retailers will have it on sale for about $15. They're also releasing a double feature DVD with both versions of The Getaway (1972/1994) on 9/15, the SRP is around $15.

This 1969 heist movie starring Michael Caine is not available on BD in the US (only its 2003 remake is). filmlover
from classicflix.com: Flicker Alley has announced a July 7th release date for a *The Lost Films of John Gilbert*. The titles are the King Vidor directed *Bardelys the Magnificent* (1926) and *Monte Cristo* (1922). Bardelys the Magnificent (1926, 85 min.) The sole surviving print was found in France in 2006; the English titles are restored according to the original script. A gap in the recovered footage is bridged with stills, titles, and footage from the original trailer so the story is complete; the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra provides a lovely score of period photoplay music. This release is possible through the graciousness of Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures. Monte Cristo (1922, 100 min.) The sole surviving copy of Monte Cristo is a worn and choppy print found in the Czech Republic, but nearly complete. English titles have been restored with the help of the original script. Pianist Neal Kurz arranged and performs a score of obscure yet beautiful French music of the period. BONUS FEATURES: Film historians Jeffrey Vance and Tony Maietta draw from their own extensive historical research into the life of John Gilbert to provide: A full-length audio essay on Bardelys the Magnificent An enclosed booklet A brand-new thirty-minute documentary Rediscovering John Gilbert, featuring an on-camera interview with John Gilbert?s daughter and biographer, Leatrice Gilbert Fountain Plus a 200+ Image slide show Details and cover art are here: http://www.classicflix.com/flicker-alley-john-gilbert-double-feature-a-475.html?osCsid=364c5e18270334a35e4492f97b8e926b

edgeciff
Got an e-mail from Oldies.Com. They are having a hugh FOX box sale. Many of these titles have already been on sale before at Amazon. Some are very good prices, others OK. All the Charlie Chan's are selling for $29.95, Grable at $29.95 also Mansfield. All the Temple box sets I believe are $14.99. Others on sale include Laurel & Hardy and Hemingway Box. Not included are the Tyrone Power, Alice Faye or Carmen Miranda or Mr. Moto. Guess the latter sold very well. Can't understand why Grable did not sell as well as Faye. Very odd. And FOX now seems to at a standstill re new sets. Hope this changes in the fall. They have released so many good sets and have done such a good job.

On other news, I don't think I'd heard anything about the BD release of It's a Wonderful Life until today. It's _rumored_ to be due for release on 11/3, but it is NOT official just yet. (It would make a lot of sense, obviously, to release it in time for the Holidays). Paramount might also be releasing the 2nd season of Star Trek and the movies based on The Next Generation on BD in time for the holidays - at least according to the "Rumor Mill" column at digitalbits.com
filmlover
Also from the Rumor Mill, *Gladiator: Extended Edition* is due from Paramount on high def Blu-ray September 22nd. *Forrest Gump* is scheduled for November 3rd. And a great satire on the Star Trek franchise, and Biill Shatner, in particular, *Galaxy Quest* is also scheduled for Sept. 22nd.

About Jack Lemmon (February 8th, 1925 - June 27, 2001) One of the most versatile actors in the history of Hollywood was born in an elevator in the Boston suburb of Newton and attended Harvard University (Class of '47), where he became president of the Hasty Pudding Club. After a stint in the Navy, Lemmon became a professional actor, working on radio, television and Broadway. Although he made his film debut playing a bit part in the 1949 film The Lady Takes a Sailor, his official debut as a cinematic leading man was opposite Judy Holliday in the 1954 comedy, It Should Happen to You. Lemmon worked with many legendary leading ladies over the course of his five-decade-long career, including Rita Hayworth (Fire Down Below), Marilyn Monroe (Some Like It Hot), Julie Andrews (That?s Life!), Shirley MacLaine (The Apartment), Natalie Wood (The Great Race), Betty Grable (Three for the Show), Janet Leigh (My Sister Eileen), Doris Day (It Happened to Jane), June Allyson (You Can't Run Away From It), Ann Margret (Grumpy Old Men), Sophia Loren (Grumpier Old Men) and many more. In addition, he teamed with Walter Matthau in 11 films (including The Odd Couple, The Front Page and Grumpy Old Men), forming one of the most-beloved duos in film history. Lemmon was also a favorite actor of legendary director Billy Wilder, who cast Lemmon in many of his classic films, including Some Like It Hot (named by the American Film Institute as the funniest film of all time), The Apartment, Irma La Douce, The Fortune Cookie, Avanti!, The Front Page and Buddy Buddy. In 1956, Lemmon was awarded his first Academy Award? as Best Supporting Actor for Mister Roberts and in 1974 was named Best Actor for Save the Tiger, becoming the first actor to achieve this honor in two categories. His other Best Actor nominations include Some Like it Hot (1960), The Apartment (1961), Days of Wine and Roses (1963), The China Syndrome (1980), Tribute (1981), and Missing (1983). In 1988, the American Film Institute honored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award. He also holds the record for the most Golden Globe? nominations for acting (22, including both actors and actresses) of which he won six, plus the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1991. At the 1998 Golden Globe Awards, he was nominated for "Best Actor in a Made for TV Movie" for his role in Twelve Angry Men losing to Ving Rhames. After accepting the award, Rhames asked Lemmon to come onstage, and in a move that stunned the audience, gave his award to him. Lemmon was one of the best-liked actors in Hollywood. He is remembered as a genuine mentor as the actor Kevin Spacey recalled in a tribute. Already regarded as a legend, he met the teenage Spacey backstage after a theater performance and spoke to him about pursuing an acting career. Spacey would later work with Lemmon in Dad (1989), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) and on stage in a revival of "Long Day's Journey Into Night." In 2000, Spacey dedicated his Oscar? for American Beauty to Lemmon. Jack Lemmon's place in film history is firmly established and his work will live on for generations, as evidenced by his being voted the 33rd Greatest Movie Star of all time by Entertainment Weekly and the 45th Greatest Movie Star of all time by Premiere Magazine. PHFFFT! (1954) (91 Minutes - not rated) After their successful pairing in It Should Happen to You (1954), Oscar? winner Judy Holliday (Best Actress, Born Yesterday, 1951) and Lemmon were reteamed in this romantic comedy by George Axelrod (The Seven Year Itch, Breakfast at Tiffany's). Phffft! follows a married couple who divorce only to find out that their divorce is even less successful than their marriage. Columbia's rising love goddess Kim Novak and Jack Carson provide support as the romantic interests Lemmon and Holliday take up with in an effort to make each other jealous. OPERATION MAD BALL (1957) (105 Minutes - not rated) Lemmon teamed up with director Richard Quine for the second of six films, (including My Sister Eileen; Bell, Book and Candle; It Happened to Jane; and How to Murder Your Wife) for this hilarious comedy about a party being planned by a group of enlisted men and their efforts to keep the fact a secret from an obnoxious, busy body officer. Lemmon headlined a cast of comedy legends including Ernie Kovacs (Our Man in Havana) and Mickey Rooney (Babes in Arms). THE NOTORIUS LANDLADY (1962) (123 Minutes - not rated) Richard Quine teamed two of his most frequent collaborators, Lemmon (in the fifth of their six films together) and Kim Novak (who made four films with the director) in a comedy/drama written by Blake Edwards (The Pink Panther, Victor/Victoria) and co-starring Fred Astaire (Top Hat, The Band Wagon). An American diplomat (Lemmon), stationed in London, rents a room from a landlady (Novak) only to discover she's being watched by Scotland Yard and may have killed her missing husband. UNDER THE YUM YUM TREE (1963) (110 Minutes - not rated) Nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical/Comedy and Best Actor (Lemmon) Golden Globes, Under the Yum Yum Tree is a comedy about a young couple in love (Carol Lynley and Dean Jones) who agree to determine their "character compatibility" by living together platonically. Virtue eventually triumphs after a series of humorous incidents during which the couple's lecherous landlord (Lemmon) hopes to seduce his new female tenant. Based on the risqu? Broadway play by Lawrence Roman and co-starring Edie Adams (The Apartment, Lover Come Back), Imogene Coca (TV's "Your Show of Shows"), and Paul Lynde (TV's "Bewitched"); Under the Yum Yum Tree was a top-grosser at the box office. GOOD NEIGHBOR SAM (1964) (130 Minutes) This wacky comedy about a happily married advertising agent (Lemmon) trapped into posing as his sexy neighbor's husband so she can inherit $15 million, co-stars Romy Schneider (The Victors), Dorothy Provine (The Great Race), and Edward G. Robinson (Little Caesar). The story soon spirals out of control when her greedy in-laws hit the scene. DVD Bonus Features include: ? Documentary hosted by Chris Lemmon - Jack Lemmon: The Man Behind The Magic (Parts 1 & 2) ? Vintage Photo Gallery ? filmlover
Hi, Edgecliff, Since your post was actually addressed to me, I will answer it. I have asked Celluloid Kid to not list all the puffery that are in the studio''s relases, just the title, the date of release, any special features, and that is it, but he just goes on his merry way doing what he wants (I think you will have seen from the other forums, he loves to copy and paste articles 24 hours a day). I have also asked him to check before posting to see if the info has already been listed...and get the same reply (which is none). . filmlover
filmlover
I had previously mentioned that the classic series *The Prisoner* was getting a UK release on Blu-ray, but that got pulled from the schedule. HollywoodGolightly
A quick heads-up for anyone planning on buying the Woodstock UCE on DVD or blu-ray, which is coming out tomorrow - it seems Target is going to have an exclusive with special packaging, which is different from that I've seen in all the other flyers and websites:
filmlover
From reports, it is the packaging that really is the only thing different. It seems that Amazon is the one to get it from because they will have a third disc for the Blu-ray that will have about an extra 20 minutes of high def performances that is exclusive to Amazon. Amazon UK is getting the Blu-ray release but minus that extra disc and all the unnecessary trinkets WB has thrown into the American release, and their pre-order price is currently seventeen pounds delivered (about $27.50), saving $22. The only problem is that the non-HD stuff on the UK release seem to be PAL-only, thus non-playable here in the U.S. unless one has a region-free player. Speaking of Amazon UK, they have the four-title Batman Anthology on Blu for about $45 shipped to the U.S. All features and extras will play on U.S. Blu machines. This works out to about a $40 savings than trying to get it from U.S. Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Batman-Picture-Anthology-1989-1997-Blu-ray/dp/B001MUK7GY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1244491052&sr=8-1 Message was edited by: filmlover
