LornaHansonForbes
Ironically, I fall asleep everytime I try to watch DEAD OF NIGHT (1945) and even more ironically, I always wake up at the very end when the "dream" repeats itself.
EricJ
Ironically, I fall asleep everytime I try to watch DEAD OF NIGHT (1945) and even more ironically, I always wake up at the very end when the "dream" repeats itself. Back in the day when little theaters could still get film prints of Anything, our college town theater used to have the 24-Hour Sci-Fi marathon every President's-weekend. (You think you can impress me with binge-watching?...Ha!) Viewers could go in and out of the theater for meal breaks, but if you've ever been in a college town at after midnight with no subway back to the city, you'll know why it was a challenge between 1am and dawn. And this was before Red Bull was invented, btw. What I discovered is, no matter how early you start to sleep through a movie, you ALWAYS wake up for the end credits. Sometimes a minute before. That's the part I've never been able to figure out.

speedracer5
I'd have to say all the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, which I think is really the same 60 min film that repeats over and over and over and over again. HOW MANY BATTLES DO THEY REALLY NEED TO HAVE?! I may also be chastised for this, but after say, Harry Potter 3 (The Prisoner of Azkaban??) I got really really bored with them. It just seemed like the same film over and over again. I don't think I've even seen the last two or three films. I know Citizen Kane ranks up there on many people's most boring films. I love that movie, I never fall asleep.

Can't tell you how often this happens to me, i fall asleep watching TCM al the time and- even after i read and agreed with this yesterday- I woke up this morning to the end credits of OUT OF THE PAST. I am so ill with myself for missing TOUCH OF EVIL too. If this were a wacky 1980's sitcom, I would've had a delightfully irreverant film noir dream- and all of you would've been there (in character as your avatars of course.) But no, this is real life...sigh.

I remember falling asleep many times in my youth while watching Monday Night Football and waking up just in time to see the final seconds tick down. Also, it happened when the Steelers were in the process of winning their first Super Bowl, and I fell asleep while listening to it on Armed Forces Radio. it's a mystery for sure.
laffite
HBO is giving a few days of free movies. Thought I try out the remake of "Mildred Pierce" (2011) It's COMA time! Zzzzzzz This thing can't hold a candle to the 1945 classic. Veda is still the spoiled, obnoxiouas, little b___h. I saw this years ago and actually enjoyed it ... for awhile. If memory serves, there were five episodes, the first three not bad at all. But everything collapsed from then on. It was appalling. The incomparable Kate Winslet was wonderful but even she couldn't save it a la fin. This is no joke, I've never fallen asleep during a movie. I get tired I turn if off, and then sleep. Or if I get bored, I just shut it off, usually forever. I have no qualms about not finishing a movie. Too many fish in the sea.

Miss J
Lord of the Rings. I’ve tried twice to see the first movie, fully awake in the middle of the day. Knocked me out both times. I didn’t even try watching the other two movies thinking I will fall asleep on those and I get so much heat for that. LOL! It is probably a good movie. Maybe it deserves all the Oscars it won and was nominated for but it’s not for me.

NickAndNora34
Back in the summer of '69 (I jest, I jest). Back in the summer of 2014, I was working at this camp in Brownwood, Texas (this town was so boring, the main attraction was Walmart), and the staff would have a movie night every single night. I don't know what it was, but I would fall asleep during certain films and then wake up during the end/credits. Two of the films I fell asleep during, were "Gladiator" and "Alien vs. Predator" (this second one being one of the dumbest films I've ever seen... Or seen part of, rather). For me, it just depends on the movie and what time it is. I managed to stay awake throughout "The Prestige" (magician movie starring Wolverine), because I thoroughly enjoyed the film. But sometimes, I am unable to even watch one of my favorite movies, i.e. "Singin' in the Rain" (1952) because I am tired and fall asleep. So for me, it just depends on what time of day/night it is in order for me to watch a film. If I dislike it, I typically turn it off.
speedracer5
I agree with NickandNora about sometimes falling asleep during movies I do like just because I was so tired. Last week, I fell asleep during part of Casablanca (a movie I love and have seen it a bazillion times), but it was at the end of a whirlwind day of working, driving to the beach, wine tasting, going to the casino and later coming back to the hotel to watch movies--I was exhausted. Fortunately, I woke up right before the famous airport scene! Believe it or not, I've also fallen asleep during The Long Long Trailer, I've even fallen asleep watching Errol Flynn! Sometimes it's very disappointing falling asleep during a movie, especially when it's one I wanted to see. My falling asleep isn't an indictment on the film, it's a sign that I can no longer pull all-nighters apparently. With these films, if I was smart enough to have DVR'd it, I can fortunately watch it again. I had to do this with The Spiral Staircase. I tried watching it and fell asleep. I watched it again when I was more rested and got through it and loved it. A while ago, I fell asleep watching Design For Living, which was disappointing, because I really wanted to see this film. I'll need to look out for it again on the schedule or rent a copy of it from Netflix or ClassicFlix. One of my friends uses Silence of the Lambs to lull her to sleep when she's having trouble falling asleep. It's not that the subject matter is comforting, it's the film score that makes her sleepy. --- I do tend to fall asleep to things like Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek and many of the other fantasy-science fiction type films.
im4cinema2
May I also add any Ken Burns documentary and I love historical topics. For me it takes a second or third viewing of these films to see their completion.
