marshald25
As a lover of classic 30s films, it's disappointing that TCM chose Monday as the day to honor the late Gregory Peck, for originally scheduled were 4 "Gold Digger" films and 4 James Cagney films from the early 30s. I had been looking forward to seeing a few of these for months, in particular "Gold Diggers in Paris," "The Doorway to Hell" and "The Crowd Roars." *Sigh* Hope TCM reschedules these movies soon! alix1929
I'm with you! I was glad TCM did a Gregory Peck tribute, but was sad it was on my "pre-Code" day.
coffeedan1927
Rejoice! TCM is showing this very same schedule, in the same order, on Wednesday, October 29!
alix1929
Oh goody! We only have to wait 3 more months!
coffeedan1927
Well, when you consider how far in advance TCM makes up its schedules, that's moving pretty fast.
Guest
Betty Compson was good in the 1929 On with the Show, which also featured Joe E. Brown, Arthur Lake, Louise Fazenda, Sally O'Neill and William Bakewell. Clunky backstage musical with elephantine production numbers also features a svelte Ethel Waters in a hot Am I Blue number. But Compson was good in a few dramatic scenes. She seems to rank with Dorothy Mackaill aand Alice White s another really good actress more or less thrown away in talkies... Too bad.... interesting curios of a film but not as good as The Broadway Melody or Hollywood Revue of 1929.
