Bogie & Bacall

The "Owl Jolson" cartoon short was cute, too. I remember that short from childhood, though of course never understood its significance ...

On the Kitty Foyle DVD, they included as an extra the Tom and Jerry cartoon bit called "Kitty Foiled." :)

Anyway, these comments belong on a "cartoons" thread I guess.

Thanks for answering my question! All I know for sure is that the Bogarts named their son Steve because of this film.

I loved the cartoon too. I love all the cartoons where they parody the stars. I believe Cartoon Alley did a entire episode about such cartoons.

And they named their daughter Leslie in honor of Leslie Howard, who insisted that Bogart be cast in the film version of The Petrified Forest. Warners didn't want to take the chance, but Howard said he wouldn't do the movie himself unless they cast Bogart (who had played Duke Mantee on stage with Howard).

I'm reading David Thomson's booklet on "The Big Sleep" for the BFI. He goes into the Hawks-Bacall-Bogie relationship and says that "Slim and Steve" were the pet names that Hawks had with his wife at the time and that Hawks modeled the Bacall personna on "Slim."
