Two Richard Dix films tonight!

I think "The Marines Fly High" is roughly based on when the US Marines were sent down to Nicaragua to help track down the revolutionary Augustino Sandino in the 1920s.

There is another rare film about that revolution and the Marine involvement, in an early Capra sound film titled "Flight".

I have to eat some crow here over Dix. I've commented here that in many if not most of his early/mid 30's films he looked like he was incapacitated by a stun ray, but tonight I have to say he was good in Twelve Crowded Hours. A little shaky affecting a drunkard, but a competent comedic performance the rest of the way. Very entertaining

Welcome to the dark side!

I've always thought 12 Crowded Hours was a nifty little film. Cy Kendall worked twice with Dix that I know of. He was also the bartender in The Whistler.

I hope someday TCM will show the two Richard Dix - Chester Morris "Devil" films from Columbia.
