Need help finding an old movie

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to find a movie that I saw many (too many) years ago on television.

To the best of my recollection, a lonely young woman is contemplating jumping off a bridge. A seemingly nice man talks her out of it and takes her back to his apartment and then won't let her leave. One night he comes home drunk, she pokes his eye out with the heel of her shoe, and escapes. She comes back to the apartment at the end of the film, and I think she moves in with him.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It's "Something Wild" (UA/Prometheus Enterprises, 1961), with Carroll Baker as the young woman who contemplates suicide after being raped and Ralph Meeker as the man who "rescues" her. Baker's then-hubby Jack Garfein directed. Mildred Dunnock, Jean Stapleton, Clifton James, and Doris Roberts are among the supporting cast.

I taped it off one of the Showtime channels about a year ago and have watched it twice--great film, shot on location in New York City.
