September Spotlight - Painfully Funny

I received my Now Playing Guide for September and saw that the September spotlight is called Painfully Funny - Exploring Slapstick in the Movies. I'm not sure who's hosting it on TCM, but like the Summer of Darkness noir-fest last year, there will be a free online course associated with it, taught by the same Ball State professor who did last year's course, Richard Edwards.

Unfortunately the sign-up seems to be disabled.  I hope I'm too early and not too late.  The course itself opens on 8/28.  Anybody have any further info about the course or the Spotlight?  I did the course last summer and would love to follow along with the new one.

To bad Letterman is not the host he went to Ball State.

So glad to see this thread is already open...the Now Playing Guide went out a few days before we opened this new course!

All the details on this year's free TCM course can be found at: https://www.canvas.net/browse/bsu/tcm2/courses/slapstick/

TCM's OUCH! A Salute to Slapstick site is also now open: http://slapstick.tcm.com/

Enrollment just opened today, and will remain open till September 19.

The course starts on August 28th.

It is similar to last year's course that ran in parallel with TCM's Summer of Darkness.

Hope to see you in the course,

Richard Edwards

I just signed up!

I'm looking forward to this class.  I especially am excited that my #1 favorite movie of all time-- The Long Long Trailer is part of the class.  I hope there's a test just on this film! I will ace it.  I've probably seen it at least 100 times (not exaggerating).

Love it - I probably won't have a test just on The Long Long Trailer though the thought of doing that does get the creative juices flowing - maybe a quiz about the correct amount of rocks to have as you traverse and treacherous steep mountain roads...

Lucille Ball is a key focus of our section on 50s & 60s slapstick - so I'm sure your knowledge of the film will come in quite handy!

Thanks! I loved all your contributions on these boards to Summer of Darkness - we are going to use TCM message boards again this time and I will be having Daily Doses of Doozies Mondays through Thursdays in September, so hopefully we have a vibrant and jumping community again that wants to discuss these very funny films.

You could have this question: "How many different characters wear the same blue jacket?" I'm not kidding.  There are at least 4-5 different people who wear the same blue jacket (sky blue w/ navy blue cuffs and collar).  Lol.
