A Bipartisan Bill Helped Save Pets From Harvey, And Maybe Their Humans Too-

"In 2005, a number of people in the path of Hurricane Katrina refused to be evacuated by emergency crews when they were told that they couldn't bring their pets. Some people then chose not to leave and risked riding out the storm. Sometimes, they didn't survive...

"This time there was a plan for animals, and it made a difference," he told us.

"It's gratifying to see people united with their pets. And for some people in Texas," he reminded us, "their pets are all they have left."

I've been getting daily updates from the Humane Society regarding their tireless work saving animals in Texas.  Today's was really poignant:  someone had contacted them worried about their dog and cat at home in Beaumont.  The HSUS crew got there, could hear the dog's frantic barking and water was still rushing indoors.    The little dog was on top of a couch and after the dog sniffed one of the volunteers, he jumped in her arms and clung to her.  After the dog was put in a carrier, the two volunteers looked for the cat, heard meowing, and found it in an air pocket on a top shelf in a closet.  The woman volunteer couldn't reach the cat but was lifted by the male volunteer and they were able to save it, too.

Notice the spaghetti plots have moved westward again.

The run on stores began yesterday, selling out much of the non-perishable food and water.

Am hoping the track moves west yet again, moving the storm into the Gulf and away from the Florida west coast.

But even if we do take a hit,it doesn't necessarily mean we'll take a direct hit.

The last time i heard, the hurricane force winds only extend out ~60 miles from the center while the tropical storm force winds extend out ~155 miles

.

The odds are that we will be brushed by the storm, keeping us in the tropical storm force wind zone.

As long as the center stays more than 60 miles from us we should be ok....i hope!

The storm now has sustained winds of 180 MPH w/gusts to 220MPH as of the 11AM update....this storm reminds me of hurricane Andrew, another storm i rode out.

I don't think Irma has cable, so she might not know where she's supposed to go according to the "spagetti" models.   You gotta figure that if these guys were that reliable at ANY predictions, they'd all be retired now living off their lottery winnings.
