hamradio
Once again people don't learn from history. Will whine for government assistance when the storm surge make waste of it all. Blame global warming instead of their arrogance towards nature.

hamradio
Some good news in that this hurricane is a fast mover, not staying in one place for very long. Few people who rode it out said they didn't thought a Category 4 would be this bad. It's a miracle the death toll so far only stands at 1 in Florida with that mindset. No idiot weather man bracing himself against the wind with passerby's casually strolling by.

The 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane was one of the deadliest Atlantic hurricanes on record. The hurricane made landfall near West Palm Beach as a Category 4 hurricane. Andrew... Cat 5 Irma.... Not first cat 4 in Florida. Andrew was a cat 5. But I agree, climate change is part of the problem and situation will get worse every year. I grew up on coast of S.C. and we never had this many bad hurricanes in the past.

It only seems there are more hurricanes that hit Florida. It's simply the odds that a storm which forms over the Atlantic will travel that far west and it's chance WHERE it strikes. What's with this "panhandle" stuff, Florida is an odd shape state (like mine ) with a very long coastline. Sooner or later ALL of it will eventually get hit. Hurricane and Tropical Cyclones Top 10 Most Active Hurricane Seasons https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/top10.asp The 2018 hurricane season is not different from the list above. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Atlantic_hurricane_season Seasonal statistics Total depressions 15 Total storms 14 Hurricanes 7 Major hurricanes (Cat. 3+) 2 6 of the most notorious October hurricanes in the Atlantic https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/6-of-the-most-notorious-october-hurricanes-in-the-atlantic/70002896 Referring to Harvey that STALLED last year, the other was Mitch in 1998. It stalled over Central America and killed nearly 20,000, a death toll that equals the Great Hurricane of 1780. Edited October 11, 2018 by hamradio
