mr6666
New Texas law means Harvey victims have good reason to file claims by Friday- A new law, set to take effect Friday, aims to crack down on frivolous insurance lawsuits. But House Bill 1774 also reduces the penalty fees that insurance companies face for late payments if the policyholder files a lawsuit....... https://www.texastribune.org/2017/08/28/harvey-insurance-claims/

mr6666
Harvey Didn’t Come Out of the Blue. Now Is The Time to Talk About Climate Change. ....“record-breaking” has become a meteorological cliché. In other words, you won’t hear much, if any, talk about climate change. This, we are told, is out of a desire not to “politicize” a still unfolding human tragedy, which is an understandable impulse. But here’s the thing: every time we act as if an unprecedented weather event is hitting us out of the blue, as some sort of Act of God that no one foresaw, reporters are making a highly political decision. It’s a decision to spare feelings and avoid controversy at the expense of telling the truth, however difficult. Because the truth is that these events have long been predicted by climate scientists.... https://theintercept.com/2017/08/28/harvey-didnt-come-out-of-the-blue-now-is-the-time-to-talk-about-climate-change/

Would Trump let them do it again? 45]Vicente Fox QuesadaVerified account @VicenteFoxQue More .@realDonaldTrump a president has to roll up his sleeves and stand with his people during a time of need, not crawl into a mobile and tweet! (FYI-- Vincente Fox is the former President of Mexico who has been extremely angry in responding to Trump's insults to his country and and his people.) Things are so bad in Houston that I'm watching a congresswoman, a college student and a retired gentleman going out and rescuing people who have been stranded for days without food and water. The closest country to mobilize to help us would be Mexico. And I think the president of the United States would have to ask them to come. As you can see from above, the Mexican Government sent help for us during the horrible aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans. I don't think the president would have the guts to ask for help from Mexico after the way he has insulted their country, their sovereignty, and their people. Ironically, now we need help from Mexico. Another thing my grandmother used to say-- Be polite and have respect for everyone. You never know when you might need their help.

How did the storm rapidly blow up from Category 1 to 4, why is it so stuck over Houston, how can it possibly produce so much rain? And more........ https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/hurricane-harvey-why-is-it-so-extreme/ Every hurricane has it's own personality. It be unlikely we'll see a storm like this again, stalled in the worst possible place. We don't have any records going far back enough to know how often this happens - every 500 or 1,000 years? Hurricanes like Sandy appears to occur every 70 years, last time was 1938.

LawrenceA
Oh brother, can just see some producer making another idiotic shark movie inspired by this. Sadly, I thought the same thing. Add it to the story about the alligator farm flooding so that hundreds of gators may get loose and have free rein over the area, and you have SyFy's next "blockbuster" : Texas Sharks vs Gator Army starring David Hasselhoff and Debbie Gibson.

But that is more credible than "climate change." And I don't believe that Hurricane Harvey is God's punishment for Texas helping to elect a racist bigoted president. Mr. And Mrs. Trump really look like they're ready to dive into that Houston disaster and help rescue people or at least handout needed water and food. After all, this is the way that Rosalyn and Jimmy Carter dress when they build those houses for Habitat for Humanity. And Those are definitely the same kind of stiletto high heels that Michelle Obama wears on Thanksgiving when she and the Obama family go into food centers to serve the hungry and homeless. The Trumps look like a "Vogue" version of how to dress in a disaster area. Too pathetic to go on.
