edgeciff
filmlover, its actually cheaper to buy the Olive discs on Imports for about $17.30 even with all that postage than B&N, I called and the two Olive titles I want are $17.99 on sale not including tax. I probably wlll pick the two up since I have a $5 gift card I had not used which brings the price down much better than imports. 50% off BR would be much better. I wonder if the Criterion sale is coming in June.
josephherndz
Just in case this has not been posted elsewhere. Amazon has the Garbo Collection For 19.99. http://www.amazon.com/Greta-Garbo-Signature-Collection-Christina/dp/B0009S4IJM/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1369601477&sr=1-1&keywords=gretagarbosignature+collection Edited by: josephherndz on May 26, 2013 3:50 PM

Edge, it would work out cheaper for me to pick up the same titles from B&N. $29.99 on an Olive - $12 (40%) - 10% (membership) - 15% (coupon) = $13.77 before taxes.
edgeciff
The woman over the phone from B&N quoted $17.95 which is 40% off of $29.95 for the Olive titles. How did you get your calculations and where is coupon? I searched for the coupon online! I have no membershp tho. Edited by: Edgecliff on May 27, 2013 12:40 AM
filmlover
Edge, the calculations were noted. $29.95 price of item Minus "40% off sale" amount ($12) equals $17.95 Then the cashier subracts 10% when she scans a membership card ($1.79) equals $16.16 Minus 15% coupon http://www.coupons.com/coupon-codes/printable/?cid=59414_2 equals $13.
edgeciff
filmlover, I understand now BUT no membershp and the coupon expires today 5/27. I won't be able to make the store probably until 5/
edgeciff
filmlover, did make it to B&N today with the help of a friend's car so I took advantage of the 40% plus $5 gift card, plus 15% off one of the BR. The two Olive discs came to about $15.60 each. Good deal. Too bad 15% coupon was not unlimited. They took my email address so will inform me of further sales.

filmlover
Best Buy has the Blu-ray of The Creature from the Black Lagoon (which includes 3D and 2D versions) for $16.99. But beware of the Universal Monsters Blu-ray set they are selling for $64.95. It only has 6 movies in it, not the 8 (UK) or 9 (US) of the regular Blu-ray box set.

I know this sale just pretty much covers the outrageous shipping charges this site has, but besides the Olive films, aren't these pretty good deals? Among the Missing (1934) Sony Choice Collection 13.45/19.99 Captive City (1952) MGM Limited Captive City 14.95/24.95 Film Noir Collection - Volume 1 - Sony Choice Collection 32.58/55.99 - Case Against Brooklyn, The (1958) - Criminal Lawyer (1951) - Crooked Web, The (1955) - Escape from San Quentin (1957) - Shadow on the Window, The (1957) Men Without Law (1930) - Sony Choice Collection 13.45/19.99 Time Out For Rhythm (1941) - Sony Choice Collection 13.45/19.99 The sale doesn't apply to their shipping, but the SAVE10 code pretty much eliminates shipping charges leaving just the 1.50 handling they charge for the overall order. I'm not aware of another site that has these MOD titles at such low prices. If there is such a site please enlighten me.
filmlover
I find the prices pretty good, but I am having to take a sabbatical from spending for awhile.
filmlover
Barnes and Noble's "50% off Criterion titles" sale will be starting July 9th.
edgeciff
filmlover, glad for the Criterion sale but I try to pick and choose judicially since spending can get out of hand. Only want two titles in B&N sale WILD STRAWBERRIES and SAFETY LAST. Did buy two titles from Imports site too. I still find it hard to believe that the BR of GUYS & DOLLS has continued to stay up in price even tho its been released months and months ago. Even a used copy is almost $22. Generally used prices come around fast but not this title. Guess I will continue to wait.
filmlover
Yes, watching for specials on certain titles is a good way to watch your balance and decide over the long term if you really want it. For a tiny amount of time this monring, Buster Keaton's Seven Chances on Blu-ray from Kino was $6.99 on Amazon.
