Name of movie before "Meet Me in St. Louis"?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the title of the short maybe 15 minute film that appeared Dec. 23rd between "Love Finds Andy Hardy and "Meet Me in St. Louis"? It was a black and white film about an Italian inn keeper that has a bleak outlook on Christmas and humanity in general but then changes his mind after everyone pitches in to help a young couple who is about to have a baby. It's a play on the story of the nativity. It really put me in the Christmas spirit. Anyone know?

Oh, that's STAR IN THE NIGHT (1945) the Oscar-winning short subject that marked the directorial debut of Don Siegel (INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, DIRTY HARRY). It's available on DVD as an extra with CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT.

I recently showed this film to some friends of mine, and afterward one of them said that this movie says more about Christmas in 20 minutes than most films say in 90 minutes or more.
