TopBilled
I'm a fan of these kinds of movies. I wish Hollywood still made them today.
rayban
I have always enjoyed Sonja Henie on film, but I haven't seen much of her work.

Most of Sonja Henie's films were in black-and-white. In the days ahead, I will probably post pictures from her movies in this thread. I'd also like to discuss the ice skating films of Belita and Vera Ralston.

Vera Ralston, such an interesting screen career, and all I can think of right now is "Fair Wind To Java".

And yes, FAIR WIND TO JAVA is one of her best-- but she was in a lot of interesting films at Republic. Looking at her later stuff, it's hard to believe she began as an ice skater. She only made four films as a skater for Republic, before branching out into other genres. In her first one, she performs as part of the Ice Capades. She gets more screen time in the follow-up movie called ICE CAPADES REVUE, and at that point, you can see she is being groomed for bigger things.
Terrence1
And don't forget Vera Ralston in "Jubilee Trail." This is probably the closest that Republic Studios came to a big-budget movie. It really is good.
TopBilled
And don't forget Vera Ralston in "Jubilee Trail." Yes, it's one of her very best films. Joan Leslie and Pat O'Brien are also superb in it.

Hollywood aren't the only ones to make ice skating musicals.
rayban
Let us not forget MGM's "Ice Follies of 1939" with its' fairy-tale finale IN COLOR!
TopBilled
Thanks Gershwin fan for your informative post! I think it's interesting how even a low-budget studio like Monogram got in on the action. Belita starred in SILVER SKATES, a pleasant time passer that TCM shows on occasion.
