Charlie's Girl
I watched Laurel and Hardy in Sons of the Desert. I'm not usually a L & H fan but I quite enjoyed this one. After learning about what a slapstick was originally, it was fun to see an actual slapstick in action. I'm a little puzzled by a phrase used in the film -- a couple of times Oliver Hardy's wife used an epithet "wax-eater." What exactly is a wax-eater? Sorry if this should be self-evident, but I've never heard the expression before.
Drosera
When I Googled it... it referred disparagingly to someone who eat earwax...

jeff_gabbard42
Remember the apple that Stan is eating? It was made of wax. Wax fruit used to be a thing as a decorative item. Now, it's more likely to be made out of plastic.

Stanley was referred to as a wax eater because he was caught eating the decorative wax apples in a bowl in Oliver's house.
jkbrenna
Sons of the Desert was a very funny film incorporating all the slapstick conditions, including Laurel eating a wax apple. I remember my grandmother had a bowl of wax fruit. I used to scratch at the them. Scene is so funny.
Charlie's Girl
Thank you for your replies. Somehow I missed the connection between the remark and the wax fruit. Much obliged.
