Slapstick and African American Cinema

Recommended Posts

Hi,  I'm wondering if what we've been learning about the development and evolution of slapstick had contemporaneous parallels in black cinema.  I actually had the same thought regarding Film Noir during the Summer of Darkness but forgot to ask!  Thanks for any thoughts.

If you examine these sites (http://www.filmsite.org/subgenres2.html) (http://www.filmsite.org/subgenres2.html) perhaps the two most comprehensive on the web, you find no searchable entries for the passing fan. Some historian of black cinema most know more information about this, and if Dr. E is reading these posts (I suspect he will at some point; if he doesn't, soon, email him) he'll track that person down!

I really like this idea, with emphasis on ones directed by African-Americans. The problem is finding enough films to make it substantive. I know Black Vaudeville and the chitlin circuit had physical comedians, but don't know if they did any, much less full-length, films.
