Movie Collector OH
It's Edward Ellis Day. How I love that grumpy old man! Lydecker My DVR was set to record quite a bit of today, I am not home right now and don't remember off the top of my head, but maybe that is why.

yanceycravat
I have to admit to being totally fascinated by Edward Ellis. I believe I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang was the first film I saw him in. I was over the moon when TCM worked out the right to show A Man to Remember. It's hard for me to believe he was in a mere 38 movies. Especially since he lived to be 81! Yancey
Ray Faiola
He was Judge Gaunt in WINTERSET. And I just watched him in HI, NELLIE!
yanceycravat
I wonder if TCM has ever shown WINTERSET. If they have it's been at least 13 years. Good little movie with a great little cast.

I don't think so. It's public domain and all of the video versions are pretty bad. UCLA has a 35mm preservation print but don't expect it to be accessed any time soon. yanceycravat
I agree with you on the bad PD prints. Never seen it anywhere near pristine. But it's not like TCM hasn't shown rare films in less than perfect condition if that's all they could get. It's definitely a film worth screening. TopBilled
There's a print of WINTERSET on Amazon Prime. Probably a public domain copy, but it's watchable. It would be nice if TCM did an evening of films featuring Margo.
Ray Faiola
I just picked up an original 16mm print of WINTERSET, probably struck around 1953 when Standard TV was distributing it to television. It was printed from a 35mm neg so it is very sharp and the soundtrack is especially vibrant. Nat Shilkret's score really sounds wonderful.
