hamradio
Wild Monkeys’ Stone “Tools” Force a Rethink of Human Uniqueness The monkey picks up a potato-sized rock in his tiny hands, raises it above his head and smashes it down with all his might on another stone embedded in the ground. As the creature enthusiastically bashes away, over and over, flakes fly off the rock he is wielding. They are sharp enough to cut meat or plant material. The monkey does not pay much attention to the flakes, save to place one on the embedded rock and attempt to smash it, too. But he has unintentionally produced artifacts that look for all the world like stone tools found at some human archaeological sites. *************************************************************** Just being a monkey, and fooling all the archaeologists at the same time. Birds are known to use tools.

MovieMadness
RIP, Schiaparelli: European Mars Lander's Crash Site Seen By NASA Probe Europe's ExoMars lander apparently crashed on the Red Planet, and an orbiting NASA spacecraft has spotted its grave, European Space Agency (ESA) officials said. The lander, named Schiaparelli, stopped communicating with mission control about 1 minute before its planned touchdown on Mars Wednesday morning (Oct. 19). Newly released photos of the landing site by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) seem to confirm what ExoMars team members had suspected — that Schiaparelli died a violent death. ******************************************************* Another one bites the dust. MovieMadness
Sloths Officially Deemed the Slowest Mammals on Earth With sloths’ relaxed and tardy nature, it seems fitting that news of the mammal’s recent achievement is spreading a day after International Sloth Day. According to the Scientific American, research has proved that sloths officially have the slowest metabolism of any animal on Earth. This impressive title was bestowed upon the animal after a seven-year study of three-toed sloths by scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. *********************************************************** I could think of some political posters who are slower but never mind, if they came up with this after seven years the scientists deserve to be listed as a close second. NipkowDisc
So you believe that some mystical creature is a more adequate explanation than evolution? faith does not subject itself to the vagueness of science but science does. the laws of probability are not theological. contention: the evolutionary process began in a prehistoric ocean 4+ billion years ago by a random coming together of non-living components. fact: scientists have not been able to recreate it in the laboratory. conclusion: theory of evolution remains unproven by failure to bring about evidentiary confirmation. end of epoch. They said they were the first to demonstrate empirically that people’s lies grow bolder the more they fib. ********************************************************* That sounds exactly like what happened with global warming. And he wants it to be somewhat affordable — $200,000 or less per person. To that end the SpaceX CEO outlined his plan to colonize Mars on September 27, including how his Interplanetary Transport System (ITS) of rockets, spaceships, fuel pods, and other crucial components would get the job done. Still, the full presentation at the International Astronomical Congress in Guadalajara, Mexico, barely scratched the surface. ******************************************************** Has anyone told this guy there isn't enough oxygen to breath on Mars yet?
