great line-up today. the gorgon is always an interesting watch plus a 2nd showing of curse of frankenstein and a good line-up of the hammer dracula films...

but they start off with the inferior americanized version of hammer's first 1958 film. the original british title is Dracula with a nice embellished D and the americanized print's sunlight disintegration scene is INCOMPLETE.

the 2012 BFI restoration print has it but we can't expect that from tcm, can we? we must watch ourselves and be eternally gratetful for the dispensations that tcm has already favored us with...

like that dazzling print of frenchman's creek.

I say they shoulda busted their guts a little to get the BFI print but that's just my opinion.

here's an example of hammer's slackness with their dracula films.

the next to last dracula film Dracula A.D. 1972 has this great carriage battle between dracula and the original van helsing who dies also but than we get this story set in modern london exactly a hundred years later...

but hammer forgot the details of the 1958 film where john van eyssen as harker starts off the film by writing in his diary. the year...

1885.

so hammer not only bleeped lee but also their own dracula film series' chronological continuity.

so hammer ruined their own dracula series and tcm won't show a superior print of the first hammer dracula film...

"unacceptable." -humphrey bogart, the caine mutiny

:)
