The Triumph of Donald Trump

Recommended Posts

The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found a huge drop in support for Trump among women.

The president trails by 32 points among registered women voters when they were asked if they would vote for the president or the eventual Dem nominee.

What I've learned in the last 24 hours: the far right has been pushing the fake news—while we were all asleep—that Clinton never conceded the 2016 election to Trump.

It's clear they're doing this to pre-justify Trump not conceding in November. Scary stuff.

NOTE/ Clinton of course conceded *quite publicly* within a matter of hours of the final results of the 2016 election coming in.

So you *wouldn't believe* how many far-right, misinformed nutjobs have tweeted at me over the last 24 hours that the 2016 election *remains unconceded*.

Roger Stone Knows Trump’s Secrets. That’s Why He’ll Avoid Prison

Attorney General Bill Barr is doing his best Deputy Dog routine for the president, but the fate of Trump’s underlings is inescapable

".......Stone earned the recommended sentence not because he is a Trump ally, but because he threatened witnesses, lied to the court and to the House of Representatives, and got caught. Worst of all, he threatened Judge Amy Berman-Jackson online, defied various gag orders, and engaged in his usual rat-fuckery. He made the mistake of thinking that Judge Berman-Jackson is as gullible as the claque of hangers-on, wanna-be catamites, and scumbag errand boys with whom Stone usually surrounds himself.

The Trump media has been bleating for two days now that the original sentence recommended by the career Justice Department officials that Stone serve his twilight years breaking rocks, stamping out license plates, and working in a prison call center was a massive miscarriage of justice, a horror beyond words and reason, and a grim penalty for a wee, decrepit old dandy barely able to totter to the stand in his own defense......

As Trump seeks to settle scores, terrify future witnesses, and generally act out all the fantasies in his authoritarian spank bank, Barr is his chief fluffer. Trump’s fantasy of having another Roy Cohn has come to life, with all of Cohn’s mendacity and amorality.....

Stone’s last whisper of power and influence is gone, and no matter what happens next week, he’s going to bear the lifelong stain of a man who spent time in prison for crimes he gleefully committed.

Long sentence or short, everything Trump touches dies — even his most loyal henchman."

Over 1,100 ex-Justice Dept officials call on Barr to resign for doing Trump's 'bidding'

........."Barr’s actions in doing the President’s personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words," the group of ex-officials wrote in a letter shared on Sunday by Protect Democracy, a nonprofit watchdog group. "Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice’s reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign.".......

"Be prepared to report future abuses to the Inspector General, the Office of Professional Responsibility, and Congress; to refuse to carry out directives that are inconsistent with their oaths of office; to withdraw from cases that involve such directives or other misconduct; and, if necessary, to resign and report publicly ... to the American people the reasons for their resignation," the statement read............

Slavoj Zizek: US enters brutal ideological civil war as four-party system begins to take form

Despite Trump’s impeachment victory, the US is entering into an ideological civil war, because the real conflict is not between the Democrats and the Republicans, but within each of those parties themselves.

Two weeks ago, while promoting his new film in Mexico City, Harrison Ford said that “America has lost its moral leadership and credibility.”

Really? When did the US exert moral leadership over the world? Under Reagan or Bush? They lost what they never had, ie, they lost the illusion (the “credibility” made in Harrison’s claim) that they’ve had it. With Trump, what was already true merely became visible.

Back in 1948, at the outset of the Cold War, this truth was formulated with brutal candor by US diplomat and historian George Kennan: “[The US has] 50 percent of the world’s wealth but only 6.3 percent of its population. In this situation, our real job in the coming period…is to maintain this position of disparity. To do so, we have to dispense with all sentimentality…we should cease thinking about human rights, the raising of living standards and democratisation.”

In this we find an explanation of what Trump means by “America first!” in much clearer and more honest terms. So we should not be shocked when we read that “the Trump administration, which came into office pledging to end ‘endless wars,’ has now embraced weapons prohibited by more than 160 countries, and is readying them for future use. Cluster bombs and anti-personnel landmines, deadly explosives known to maim and kill civilians long after fighting has ended, have become integral to the Pentagon’s future war plans.”

Those who act  surprised by such news are simply hypocrites: in our upside-down world, Trump is innocent (not impeached) while Assange is guilty (for disclosing state crimes).

It’s true that Trump exemplifies the new figure of an openly obscene political master in disdain of the basic rules of decency and democratic openness.

The logic that underlies Trump’s actions was spelled out by Alan Dershowitz (who is, among other things, an advocate of legalized torture). The Harvard Law professor stated that if a politician thinks his re-election is in the national interest, any actions he takes towards that end cannot by definition be impeachable. “And if a president did something that he believes will help him get elected, in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment,” Dershowitz argues.

The nature of power out of any serious democratic control is clearly spelled out here.

What was taking place in the ongoing debates about Trump’s impeachment was a case of the dissolution of the shared common ethical substance which makes argumentative polemical dialogue possible: the US is entering into an ideological civil war in which there is no shared ground to which both parties to the conflict can appeal – the more each side elaborates its position, the more it becomes clear that no dialogue, even a polemical one, is possible.

We shouldn’t be too fascinated by the theatrics of the impeachment process (Trump refusing Pelosi’s handshake, Pelosi tearing up a copy of his State of the Union address) because the true conflict is not between the Democrats and the Republicans but within each of the parties.

It's too bad that citizens can't be people like corporations.

US Prevents Medical Supplies From Reaching Cuba

The U.S. blockade has affected the Cuban Health services by cutting the supplies entering the island natio, the Director of Trade for the MediCuba Company S.A.,  Solainy Fajardo said in a statement on Monday.

In an interview with local newspaper Juventud Rebelde, the functionary said that Cuba is compelled to buy these medical resources in distant markets located in third countries, which increases the import costs of medicines and other products as reactive, medical instruments, disposable material, equipment, and spare parts.

In addition, U.S providers are restricted from selling these medical appliances to the Import and Export Company of Medical Products of the Ministry of Public Health in Cuba, MediCuba,  the xpert said.

The economic, commercial and financial blockade that the U.S. maintains against the Caribbean island endures with new legislation and proclaims emitted by Trump administration. For instance, the sale of leading technology is not authorized for the health sector and the U.S. only grants licenses if the use and purpose of the equipment can be monitored. Besides, those products that Cuba is allowed to get must fulfill the control, and classification requirements established by the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations.

The statistics show that in a time period from 1961 to 2019 the prejudices exceeded US$922 million. Also, form April of 2018 to the same month in 2019, the Public Cuban Health sector had affectations for US$104 million, a figure that exceeds US$6 million in the prior period.  However, the Cuban government looks for alternatives and efforts to procure the necessary supplies for urgent or prioritized cases, as patients with cardiac conditions.

sanders hates capitalism so lets replace it with socialism...

PROBLEM: socialists would lay claim to money they didn't make and they would very quickly run out of that money they confiscated which is the chronic dead end socialism always encounters.

sanders does not really care about the American working class they are just a means to an end which is to instigate a revolt against free market capitalism which is the only thing he really cares about.

the American people are not test subjects for his commie laboratory.

Four parties?  Appears more like distinct division in each party and we have had that before and often.  The Democratic Party before 1970.  The Republican Party before 1964.  As can be seen by recent House and Senate actions, even with two major divisions in each party, they still vote as one.

Sounds like you have accepted the GOP talking point that Socialist and Communist are synonymous.  Your side has apparently never heard of Democratic Socialists, common in Europe.  As has been pointed out to you and others here, many of the programs that help ordinary people in this country, including many deplorables, are socialistic in nature.  Plus, your President Trump believes in corporate welfare, socialism to those least in need of assistance.

But easier to conjure images of Soviet Communism to scare the populace as well as the wealthy, notwithstanding the fact that Trump’s BFF was an old Soviet KGB agent.  Layer upon layer of hypocrisy.

Illinois GOP House delegation blasts Blagojevich commutation: 'The face of public corruption'

".........Blagojevich is the face of public corruption in Illinois, and not once has he shown any remorse for his clear and documented record of egregious crimes that undermined the trust placed in him by voters,” the GOP lawmakers said.

"....We are disappointed by the president’s commutation of Rod Blagojevich’s federal sentence. We believe he received an appropriate and fair sentence, which was the low end of the federal sentencing guidelines for the gravity of his public corruption convictions,” ..........

President Trump goes on clemency spree, and the list is long....

",,,,,,Trump has gone on a clemency blitz, commuting what he called a “ridiculous” 14-year prison sentence for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and pardoning former New York Police Department commissioner Bernie Kerik, among a long list of others.

Others who got a break from Trump include financier Michael Milken, who served two years in prison in the early 1990s after pleading guilty to violating U.S. securities laws, and Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former San Francisco 49ers owner convicted in a gambling fraud scandal after building one of the most successful NFL teams in history.

In all, Trump took clemency actions related to 11 people, his latest interventions in the justice system as he is under growing fire for weighing in on the cases of former aides. Trump made clear that he saw similarities between efforts to investigate his own conduct and those who took down Blagojevich,........

“the pardoning of these disgraced figures should be treated as another national scandal by a lawless executive.” He was referring specifically to the actions involving Blagojevich and Milken.

And he predicted that, following Trump’s acquittal by the Republican-controlled Senate, “outrageous abuses like these will accelerate and worsen.”

Many of the pardons announced Tuesday were advocated by well-heeled friends of the president,.........
